Be it known that I, M JAY SAGE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York', Yuri-ugh of Brool lyn, in the county of lf Te and State of New York, have inventif :i new and ,lioproved Strainer, of which the following iii a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a. Strainer suitable for light liquid hydrocarbons which will prevent any liquid or gas from escepin from the strainer.
The invention is characterized by a easing having an inlet above an outlet, between which a straining surface is interposed, the straining surface being removable through the top of the casing Whereat a vid ioint is provided to insure against lei-tirage,

The figure is a vertical se Y--n through a strainer embodying my ini The rules of fire under vri-nrs provide that no strainer for asolene can he used in any building which is not provided with a ground joint at the places giving access to the straining surface of the strainer, and the object of my invention is to comply with those rules and provide such a strainer.
Referring to the drawings, the casing is cylindrical in form and open at the upper end. It has an inlet opening 1 and en out* let o ening 2 separated by a ertitioii 3 into which a ring 4 1s threaded t rough the top opening of the casing. The ring 4. has a ha1idle.5 which bridges the rin so as to increase its strength and to facilitate the manipulaton ofthe ring. It has also dependL ing arms 6 extending into the well 7 of the casing. To these arms a gauze fabric 8 is secured, which constitutes the straining surface0 The top opening of the casing has a valve seat 9, which is preferably cup shape, for u.` vulve l0 which is retained on the seat by a threaded nut ll which engages an annular Shoulder l! provided on the outside of the vaive. The ground valve seat in the strainer prevents iiiiy leakage through the top of the strainer.
It will be noted that there is no discharge from the wel] 7 ot the casing, so that no leak can take place tliei'eabout. It will also be noted that the discharge 2 is disposed above the bottom of the well, so that if the lower portion of the straining surfaoe 8 becomes clogged hy the sediment in the Well, the eiliciency of the upper part will not be impaired thereby.
I claim:
A' strainer of the class described compris ing a cylindrical casing open at one end and having :in inlet opening and an outlet opening disposed at different levels` a. transverse partition iii said casing below the inlet opening and above the outlet opening, a ring threadeble into said partition tlirou li the end opening of the casing, a member ridging the ring for facilitating the manipula-- tion of same, said rin havingr arms extending below the partition beyond the inlet opening, a gauze cylinder secured to said arms, a valve closing the end opening of the casing and havin en outer annular shoulder, and a nut a. apted to have a threaded engagement with thecasing and engage the annular shoulder of the valve to secure the saine to its seat in the casing.
