EMIL LINDERME, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TQEMIL SCHWARZ, OF DETROIT,
Y l MICHIGAN.
BOTTLE-WASHING BRUSH.
Application led March 25, 1918. Y Serial No.. 224,655.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL LINDERME, a citizen of the United States of America, re-
county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Washing Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a bottle cleaning brush, and more particularly to certain improvements in connection with that type of brush disclosed in my pending application on a bottle cleaning device, filed October 18, 1917, Serial No. 197,225. In this particular application there is shown a holder in which a flexible member is mounted and the present invention aims to provide a exible member with simple and effective means, in a manner as hereinafter set forth for positively anchoring the flexible member in its holder, so that during its use the flexible member will not become accidentally detached. y
The invention will be hereinafter described and then claimed and reference will now be had to the drawing wherein there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention but 1t is to be understood that the same is susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In thev drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the brush;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line II-II of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on the line III-III of Fig. 1, and
' Fig. 4 is a perspective view The brush is adapted to be used in a machine for washing bottles and is adapted to enter the mouth of a bottle and thoroughly clean, in conjunction with water or a washing solution, the entire inner surface of a bottle. In order that the brush may pass in and out of the mouth of a bottle, it is made of a flexible material, such as rubber, in the form of a fiat member 1 having straight side edges 2 adapted for cleaning the yside walls of a bottle, a convex upper edge 3 adapted for 'cleaning the breast of a bottle, and a concave lower edge 4 adapted for cleaning the bottom of the bottle. Adjacent the edges 2 and 4 and on both sides of the flexible member are ribs 5, said ribs add- Speccation of Letters Patent.
of the holder.

ing a degree of rigidity to the edges of the flexible member, yet not interferingv withl said member being rolled or gathered in'- passing in and out of a bottle neck.
On both sides of the flexible member and longitudinally thereof are beads 6 extending'froml vthe upper convex edge 3 of saidl member to a point approximately centrally thereof, where the beads meet enlargements 7 serving as stops.
Adjacent the beads 6, on both sides of the flexible member, are lugs 8 and 9, the lugs 8 being in opposed relation at the same side of the beads 6 and contiguous to the convex edge 3 of the flexible member. The lugs 9 are in opposed relation on the opposite side of the beads 6' contiguous to the enlargements 7 and both set of lugs are made of the same material as the flexible member 1 and integral therewith.
To support the flexible member a cylindrical holder 10 is employed, said holder having a socket 11 so that it may be attached to the hollow spindle of a bottle washing machine and receive water or washing liquid therefrom, the holder having an opening 12 in communication with the socket 11 so that water may discharge into a bottle to coperate with the brush in cleaning the interior of the bottle.
TheA cylindrical holder 10 has a longitudinal bore 13 and opposed side slots 14 communicating with said bore, the side slots and the bore being of a depth equivalent to the length of the beads 6 which are adapted to t in the bore 13 with the wings or bilateral portions of the flexible member projecting out of the slots 14.
The enlargements the inward movement bore 13.
The exterior walls of the holder 10, at the slots 14 are provided with sets of notches 15 and 16, the former being adjacent the lower end of the holder to receive the lugs 9 and the latter intermediate the ends of the holder to receive the lugs 8. Since the flexible member is made from a flat sheet of rubber or molded in such form it can be readily twisted, distorted or otherwise manipulated, when being placed in engagement with the holder so that the lugs 8 and 9 will engage in the notches 16 and 15 respectively. After the member is anchored in the holder the lugs prevent longitudinal of the beads 6 in the movement of the flexible member relative to the holder, consequently the brush cannot become accidentally displaced when in use.
`What I claim is:
l. A bottle Washing brush comprising -a holder having a longitudinal bore and side slots with notches adjacent said slots, a .ilexible member having beads adapted to ft in the bore of said holder with said niember projecting from the slots thereof, and lugs on said member engaging in the notches of said holder.
2. A bottle Washing brush comprising` Aa flexible member having straight side edges,
v'a convex upper edge, and a concave lower edge, beads on both sides of said member adjacent the straight 1 and concave 'edges thereof, and lugs centrally of said member` on both sides thereoil adapted to engage in the 'holder for said brush. 20
'3. The combination With a holder, of a Hat Vflexible brush mounted therein, means on both faces of said brush extending into -one side of said holder adapted to prevent displacement of said brush, and means on 25 both faces of said .brush and adapted to engage in the opposite side of said holder and coperate With the lirst mentioned means.'
