COLLAR AND NECKTI'E HOLDER.
Specification' of Letters Patent. Patented Aug'. 6, 1918'.
Application led August 11, 1916. Serial No. 114,307.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the town of Union, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Collar and Necktie Holders, of which the following is a specication.
Broadly the object of my invention is to provide an improved detachable fastening for fabric or analogous articles of wearing apparel or the like, and also to conceal the fastening in a neat manner. Specifically the object of my invention is to provide a fastening to hold in position the ends of a soft collar and to support a necktie at the collar. Referring to the accompanying drawmg:-
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my collar and necktie holder indicated in dotted lines and supporting a necktie at the collar. Fig. 2 is a cross section of Fig. 1, taken on the line 2-2, looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the collar and necktie holder and the necktie of Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
The numeral 10 indicate the front portion of a soft turned down collar which is provided with a front collar button 11, shown in Fig. 2. The outside portion of the collar 10 is held in position at the ends 12 and 12a by the pin-like points 13 and 13a, penetrating the fabric of the collar and squeezing it against the plate 14. The plate 14 is sewed by stitches 15 to the necktie 16.
Referring to Fig. 2, at the lower face of the plate 14 one end of, a spring wire member 17 is rigidly attached. This member 17 is provided with a coiled portion 18, like the spring coil of a .safety pin, from which the.
member 17 extends to the left and then up'- wardly through a hole 19 in the center of the plate 14. After passing through the hole 19 the member 17 again extends to the left, is bent down, and terminates in the point 13, which penetrates the left hand end 12 of the collar 10. A notch 20 is provided at the left hand end of the plate 14 to center the point 13. By pressing with the thumb and forenger at the points indicated by the arrows 21 and 22, -the spring wire member 17 may be caused to assume the position indicated by the dotted lines 17 X and thus release the' point 13 from the left hand end 12 of the collar 10.
Again referring to Fig. 2, at the lower face of the plate 14 one end of a spring wire member 17 a is rigidly attached. This member 17 a is provided with a coiled portion 18, from which the member 17a extends to the right and then upwardly through the hole 19 but beneath the member 17. After passing through the hole 19 the member 17v again extends to the right, is .bent down, and terminates in the point 13a, which penetrates the right hand end 12a of the collar 10. A notch 20aL is provided at the right hand end of the plate 14 to center the point 13a. By pressing the left hand portion of the device with the thumb and forefinger the member 17a and the point 13a may be released in a manner similar to that described above for the release of the member 17 and the point 13.
When the word upwardly is used in the claims'it contemplates a device in the posi-V tion shown in Fig. 2.
I claim:
1. A device to fasten two articles together, consisting of a central portion provided with two spring grip members, one rigidly secured at each end of the central portion, each member extending toward the center of the device, then extending upwardly and then toward the opposite end of the device.
2. In a coll-ar and necktie holder, a device adapted to be attached at the back of a necktie, two attachment members, one rigidly secured at each end of the device, each extending toward the center of the device, then extending upwardly and then toward the opposite end of the device to grip a collar.
3. In a collar and necktie holder, a plate adapted to be attached at the back of a necktie and provided with a notch at each end, two spring members, one attached at each end of the plate, each spring member having a spring coil portion and extending from the coil portion toward the center of the plate, then extending upwardly through a hole in the center of the plate and toward the opposite end of the plate and terminating in a downwardly extending point.
4. A device of the charftcterdescriped comtending through said opening and also with prising e plate provided with an opening, a a portion extending to the opposite end of member;.ofspringwire selcuredcrigidlyto seid l'olztte,4 seid'letStmentionedfportion'termi- 10 one end of seid plate, sa-id member of spring nating" in a point and( being adapted to 5 Wire being provided with a reverting bend pressY toward the plate. located adjacent one endigogthe pleteande; 'c being further provided with :L portion eX- WILLIAM ll-I.
