Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented Aug. 6, 1918.
Application filed February 9, 1917. Serial No. 147,680.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIHU INGRAM, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 601 Cadillac avenue, in the city of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Collar-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a fastener of novel and improved form, very economical of manufacture, and more easily adjustable through button holes than the ordinary button, for the purposes intended. Y
Another object of this invention is to provide a fastener with larger flat bearing surface than the ordinary collar button, and of thin material, to occupy less space, thereby reducing pressure at the nape of the neck when there used as a collar button.
Another object of this invention is to provide means to prevent the cravat from creeping up at the rear of the collar, the fastener being designed so that the band of the cravat may be slipped under and retained in position by the wing of the fastener.
With the foregoing, and other objects in view which will appear in the. description, the invention lies in the formation and details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood 7 that changes in detail can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention is formed and completed I as shown in Fig. 3, the main body 1, being double folded at right angles to its plane and bringing both wings thereof opposite to the tongues or keepers indicated by 3.
The use of the fastener is as follows The fastener is slipped downwardly through the rear button hole of the shirt band, until the shirt band rests centrally between the two tongues 3; the wings of the device and the tongues 3, extend in opposite directions from the original plane or body of the invention, to form a bar to prevent the fastener from slipping out of the button hole without force; the rear button hole of the collar is then slipped over the device until the band of the collar also occupies a position central of the fastener between the two tongues 3, to complete the adjustment.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the I fastener forms a device easily applied and forming a secure attachment between the collar and the collar band of the shirt, yet permitting the collar. to be removed readily by very slight application of force.
I claim as my invention 2-- A collar fastener constructed of a strip of sheet metal, formed U-shaped with two keepers or tongues formed integral therewith and extending outward from the side opposite to the wings of the main body.
