IMPROVEMENT IN PHOTOGRAPHERS POSlNG-CHAIRS.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Photographers Posing-Chairs, invented by ISAAC O. SWETT, of Brighton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts.
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
The first part of my invention relates to the adjustable back and head rest of a chair; and consists in an adjustable clamp and set-screw,
with proper-shaped angle-irons connected to position of the body, or so as to secure a better view of their dress, either the right or left arm of the chair may be instantly removed; or, in case desired, both arms may be in like manner removed or replaced, at pleasure, so as to adapt it to the requirements of each sitter; be they male or female, full-grown or children, the same pleasing results may be secured.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my inven-. tion with one of the arms removed. Fig. 2 is a cross-section, showing one corner of seatframe, the back being raised up to the highest point when clamped.
Description of my Invention.
A is the seat of the chair, to each side of which is secured two sockets, B B, in a permanent manner. 0 O are the arms, provided with supports D D, which fit into the sockets BB and allow the arms to be connected or disconnected at pleasure.
E E are two angle- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,439, dated J une 4, 1872.
irons, secured in a firm manner to the rear of the seat A. The back G is provided with a frame, H, which is hinged to the inside of the back-frame, to a cross-piece, I. At or near this cross-piece I commences a suitable groove. From each of the front inner-corners of the frame of the back G into these grooves fits the clamp-frame H, allowing sufficient space at each side for the angle-irons, so that the back may be raised up or lowered easily. To the bottom of the clamp-frame His a crosspiece, K, into which is secured a nut, L, and
to the bottom of the back-frame G is a crosspiece, M, into which is Secured the hand-screw N, upon the outer end of which is a suitable knob, to be grasped by the hand to tighten or release the gripe or bearing brought against the angle-irons, the ends of which fit into the groove or opening between the back-frame Gr and the clamp-frame H. Thus, by loosening the hand'screw N, the pressure is released and the back may be raised or lowered to the point desired, when a turn or two in the opposite direction will bring the clamp-frame toward the back-frame, and the same is secured firmly in position.
