ing systems and has for its object to pro vide a system adapted to be connected with any heating means, such particularly as a gas or kerosene stove wherein a tank or receptacle for water is provided into which the water may be delivered by pails or from a faucet, or in any desired way, in combination with structural features of the tank such that a part only of the water will be first heated, giving in eflfect an instantaneous heating of the water, although if the water is not drawn off the entire contents of the tank may in the end be heated.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof and are pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, illustrating the application of my invention in one form,-
Figure 1 is a part sectional side elevation of my apparatus. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
As illustrated, a gas stove 10 is provided having customary burners over which are positioned hot water heating members 11 and 12, which have connected therewith a hot water riser pipe 13 which, in turn, enters a lower chamber 15 of a tank 14. The chamber 15 is formed by means of a partition 16 extending across the tank at a suitable distance from the bottom thereof. The partition 16 has a central opening 22 from which de ends a cylindrical extension 17, as clearly sliown in Fig. 1. The member 17 depends from the partition 16 to a point near the bottom 23 of the tank. The compartment 18 in the upper part of the'tank is adapted to be opened by a cover 24 through which the tank may be filled in any desired way. A faucet 19'is attached to the side of the tank and opens into the lower compartment 15 at a point slightly below the partition 16, so that when the tank is filled there will be an air space 25 above the surface of the'water in the compartment 15 and below partition 16. This provides an insulating layer for the lower chamber and- Specification of Letters Patent.

The apparatus can be used Where there is no piped water supply, or. can beused with'such a supply according to the conditions to be met. In any event, the tank doesnot haveto be of massive construction and remains open subject to inspection and cleansing. When heat is applied to the circulating members 11 and 12 the water, quickly heated thereby,
will pass through the pipe 13 into the upper portion of chamber 15, displacing the cold water which flows upward through the cylindrical depending extension 17. Fresh water passes from chamber 15 through pipe 27 to the heating members. The water in chamber 15 not having an opportunity to mix with the body of water in the tank quickly becomes heated and may be withdrawn as rapidly as formed. If such water is not withdrawn circulation through the tank 18 will ultimately heat the water in the tank also, although the waterin compartment 15 will always be at the highest temperature.
I claim:
1. A hot water heating system comprising an open tank for receiving a supply of Water, provided with a partition dividing the tank into a relatively small lower and large upper compartment, said partition having a central opening, a depending member placing the bottom of the small compartment in communication with the bottom of the large compartment through said central opening, a hot water circulating system comprising water heating'members and outflow and inflow pipes in communication respectively, with the lower and upper compartments, and a faucet adapted to draw water from the top of said lower compartment.
2. A hot water heating system comprising an open tank for containing a supply of water, a partition in said tank dividing the same into an upper and lower compartment, means connecting the lower portion of the upper compartment with the lower portion of the lower compartment for permitting flow ofwater, said means comprising a tubular member attached to said partition and eXtending downwardly, the passageway in said tubular member registering with a central opening in said partition, a hot water circulating system comprising water heating membersand outflow and inflow pipes in communication, respectively, with the lower and upper compartments, and means for withdrawing water'from the top of the lower compartment.
3. A hot water heating system comprising an open mnkror receiving a 'supply of water, a partition dividing the tank into upper and lower compartments, means permitting How of water from the bottom of the lower compartment through a central opening in said position to the bottom of the upper compartment, a hot water circulatin'g system comprising water heating so as to provide an insulating layer of air between the surface of the water in the lower compartment and said partition.
4. A hot water heatlng system comprising an open tank for receiving a supply of water, means separating said tank into relatively a small lower anda large upper compartment, means for temporarily holding the hot water in the lower compartment until it may be withdrawn-,means for permitting the hot water in" the bottombf the lower compartment, when not being with drawn, to' ascend into the bottom of the upper compartment, a hot water circulating system comprising water-heating members and outflow and inflow pipes in communication, respectively, with the upper and the lower compartments, and means for drawing water from near the top ofthe lower compartment.
