IMPROVEMENT IN STEM-BQILERS.
Specification describing certain Improve- A ments in Steam-Boilers and Heaters, invented by ORIN VVEHOSKEY, of the city and county of Providence, in the Stateof Rhode Island.
This invention consists in making, of horizontal sections bolted together, a boiler for generating steam for power or heating purposes, and for heating water for warming buildings by circulation", the sections being made in the shape of wheels with hollow hubs and arms, and double rims, also hollow, the dpenings between the two rims forming return lues from the top ot' the boiler to a circular space at the lower end, to which the smokepipe is attached, to carry oft the products ot' Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the boiler. The boiler is made up of the sections A A A and A', each section A being made in the shape ot' a Wheel with a double rim, and intended to be cast in one piece, the arms and double rim being made hollow and opening into each other, and the hub with a hole through it into which all the arms open. In section A' the arms and hub are left out to form a space to be used for a nre-box. The sections are putone on top of another, in number according to the size ot' the boiler required, and are held together by the vertical bolts s s passing through the hubs and rims of the sections. Ihe holes in the sections through which the bolts pass are made enough larger i than the bolts to allow a free circulation ot' the water from one section to another. Section A', which forms thc base ot' the boiler,
rests on the ash-pit D, and projects out over it so as to form the lchamber B, to which the smoke-pipe is attached. The sections are placed upon each other in such order that the Vopenings a u., between the outer and inner arms of the sections, thus adding l rgely to the heating surface and increasing the efficien cy ot' the boiler with economy of fuel. Gr is the fire-grate. N is a door to the tire-box made through the section A. o o' are apertures for gauges or water-cocks. The boiler may readily be enlarged by the addition of more sections, and in case of an accident or defect in one of the sections, it caneasily be removed by unscrewing the bolts, and another put in the place ot' it.
