To all whom it may concern: 7 I Be it known that I, RICHARD H. MARTIN,
- a citizen of the United States, residing at Toccoa, in thecounty of Stephens and State of Georgia,'have invented a new and useful Quick Plug Attachment, of which the fol-' lowing is a specification.
The subject of thls lnventlon -IS a quick attachment plug for connecting hose to a hydrant, and the objects of the invention are first, to provide a novel and efficient coupling, second, to provide a hydrant discharge and a quick coupling attachment cooperating therewith, third, to provide a quick coupling with an inner sleeve which" forms a water tight joint, fourth, toprovide means for removing and replacing any one of the gripping elements, fifth,to provide means for releasing the grippingelments to uncouple the parts, sixth, "to pro-' vide a cover for one ofthe coupling members.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in-the precise embodiment of the inventlon herein disclosed, can be .made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device indicated as attached to ahydrant.

Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference The usual .fire hydrant is indicated at 1 and is provided with the ordinary discharge nipple 2 to which a hose may be attached.
Threaded on the nipple 2 is a cylindrical member 3 formed with an interior annular groove 4 adjacent its outer end. The outer end of the casing 3 is reamed to provide the beveled edge indicated at 5, Fig. 1. An annular shoulder 6 is formed in the casing 3 and serves as a seat for a nipple 7 which is formed of soft rubber or like material. As

Spaced lugs 8 rise from the casing and between these lugs is pivotally secured a curved'tongue 9 which extends rearwardly and downwardly from a frusto-conical cap 10. 'The edges or faces of the pivoted end of the tongue 9 are formed with curved indentations 11 which are adapted to receive. the curved portion 12 ofa spring 13 which is secured to the member 3 by screws or otherwise. A ring 21, of'substantially T shape in cross section engages the attaching end of the member 14to which it is secured by screws 22 which pass through slots 23 formed in the ring 20. This connection allows the ring to be oscillated back and forth. The ring is formed with a series of cam faces 24 which contact the resilient latch bars 17,]and
when the ring is turned clockwise as viewed in Fig. 2, draw the bars inwardly and relatches to unlatched position when lease the coupling.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new Patent, is
, 1. A quick coupling, comprising a tubular member provided with an annular groove, a shoulder formed in said member, a flexible nipple resting against the shoulder, a second tubular member cooperating with thefirst member, said second member provided with longitudinal slots, resilient latches held in the slots with their hooked endsprojecting from the member, andmeans for drawing the latches to releasing position.
2. A quick coupling, comprising a tubular member provided with an annular groove, an annular shoulder formed in said member, a flexible nipple resting against the shoulder and extending from the member, a second tubular member cooperating with the first member, said second member provided with longitudinal slots, resilient latches in. said slots, the hooked ends of the latches extending from said latter member, a ring secured to the member, and cam faces on the ring and contacting the latches to draw the the ring is revolved in one direction.
3. A quick coupling, comprising a tubular member provided with an annular groove,
an annular shoulder formed in said member, a flexible nipple resting against the shoulder,
a yieldingly held cappivotally secured to the member, a second tubular member cooperating with the first member, and resilient latches secured to said second member and sought by Letters" .and adapted to engage the annular groove to lock the members together.
4. A quick coupling, comprising a tubular a member provided with an annular groove;
formed interiorly thereof, a shoulder formed in said member, a flexible nipple restingagaiiist the shoulder, a second tubular mem-v ber cooperating with the first member, and resilient latches secured to said second member and adapted to engage the annular groove to lock the members together.
5. A quick coupling, comprising a tubular member provided with an annular groove formed interiorly'thereof, a shoulder formed in said member, a flexible nipple resting.
6. A quick coupling, comprising a tubular member, a shoulder formed in said member,
a flexible nipple resting against the shoulder,- a second tubular member cooperating with the first member, latches secured within the second member andengageable with the first member to-lock the members together, and" means for releasing the latches. v
