Description

E. E. HARRIS. COMBINED SALT AND PEPPER HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 23,1911.
Patented July 23, 1918.
funnier:
' Holder, ofwhich the following is a specifi- 'ticularly designed to provide EDWARD H ARRIS, F TULSA, OKLAHOMA.
COMBINED SALT PEPPER HOLDER.
' i Application filed July 23,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD E. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Tulsa, in-the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new 1 and useful Combined Salt and Pepper cation. v
This invention relates to an improved salt and pepperholder adapted to deliverthe contents in small quantities, and is par an improved, device of this character wherein different articles, such as salt, pepper, and the like may be separately heldwithin a single container and delivered singly therefrom in a convenient and efiicient manner. I The invention further contemplates the provision of a sanitary'dev-ice of this character.
A further object within the contemplation of the invention is the fprovision of means for preventin mixing 0 the contents of the holder or she er. r
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description. proceeds, theinvention resides in the combination and "arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what isclaimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shownl'in the accompanying drawing, whereins- Figure lie 9. "plan view of the cap with the disk removed; a
Fig. -2isla plan view of the disk; Fig. 3 is. a plan view of the cap with the disk in place;
" Fig. 4: is a central vertical section taken f through the partition wallg I view taken at right the section pffFig. 4:; plan view of the cap. to the drawing'by numerals of Fig. 5 is-a siniilar angles tothe plane of Fig. 6 is-a bottom Referring reference. I
In carrying outthe inventionthejre is provided, a suitable, preferably-Q cylindrical, body or.containerf15,-made of glass or other convenient material, and formed with a dia-' metrically, disposed partition 14 extending from the bottom of the container and pro-- jecting above the mouth or top thereof.

. The container -:.is formed, toward its upper, end and on its outer surface, with an annular bead 13 abovewhich screw threads are provided. The container15 is, reduced at its upper end or mouth to form the annular upwardly facing shoulder 12, situated a Patented July 23,191
suitable distance below the uppe r edge l1 The sides of the projecting end of the wall 14 aline with the outer surface of the reduced portion of the bodyor container 15. p Y 5 v A cylindrical cap comprisinginner and outer members is adapted to encircle and closely hug the reduced upper end of the container 15 and to be seated upon the upper edge of the dividing wall or plate 14. The inner member of the cap isprovidedwith parallel, 10 which form therebetween a channel for the reception of the upper edge of the wall14.
The cap members are connected by -having the lower edges or periphei ies of their aprons rolled together as indicated. at 8. V
the cap areprovided with 1 about the edges of which The members of -a1ining apertures ownwardly struck or pressed ribs a bead 2 is preferably formed, and between the members is mounted a a pin 3 which extends through the center of the heads of the cap members. The disk 3 is provided with actuating buttons 4; adapt- 'ed to project upwardly through the apertures l 'to permitthe disk to be rotated on the'pin 3. "Perforations 5 are provided in the Idisk to be alternately brought in register wit one compartment, of the container to shakentherefroin;
The outer member of the cap is formed with tan outwardly extendin upwardly facing,'annu1ar shoulder 7 a aptedto be disk rotatable on I V i an aperture 1 to permit the contents of contacted bythe inward-ly extending annu- I lar flange 6 nf-a retaining ring which' is threaded to engage the threads of the body 15 and which serves to bind the cap in place notshown, may be provided in the aprons of the members of the cap so'thatgrains-of the subwhich find their way between the members of the cap may easily escape therefrom.
From Fig. 4: it willbe noted that the wall 14, as indicated at 9, 1s coextensive with the outside diameter of the reduced upper end of the container 15 and is engaged-closely e contents of one com+ partment of the body may hot pass irom said compartment into the other.
In practice the ,cap is removed by unscrewing the retaining ring and salt placed in one compartment and pepper in the other.
Because of the upwardly extending end of the wall 14; this may be readily and easily done without danger of spilling some of the article intended for one compartment. into the other. I
The cap is then replaced and the screwed down to its seat upon the head 13. g
other compartment.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new Patent, is
A combination salt and pepper holder, including a hollow body open at one end, a
two witnesses. and sought by Letters portion of .the body adjacent the open end reduced to form an upwardly .facing shoulder, a partition wall in the body and forming compartments therein, said wall-extendlIl above the open end si es of its upwardly extending portion in of the body with the alinement with the outer surface of the redueed portion, a cap-for closing the body adapted to encircle the reduced portion and be seatedon the shoulder, said cap having a 'diametrical groove forthe reception of the upper edge of the partition wall, there being openings in the cap, means for placing the openings in communication with the compartme'nts, and -means forsecurin'g the cap in place upon the body.
In testimony whereof that I claim the same as being myown,-I have hereunto set my hand and signature, in
the presence of EDWARD HARRIS.
