Description
JAMES-s. LESTER,
improvement in Peah-Stoners.
Y" N0. 127,355', Patented May 28,1872.
UNITED STATES JAMES S. LESTER, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND J. S.
PATENT GEEIGE.
WILLSON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PEACH-STONERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,355, dated May 28, 1872.
l ful Improvements in Peach-Stoners; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing and` to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a peachstoner;7 as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of my machine. Fig. 3 represents a three-plate hinge that may be used for hinging the parts of the frame together; and Fig. 4 represents an eXtra blade to quarter the peach, instead of halving it, at the same time as the stone is removed.
The object of my invention is to furnish a cheap, durable, and successful machine for removing the seed from peaches.
A represents the bed of my machine, provided with a longitudinal groove, a, and having a short piece, B, hinged to one end. To the upper end of this piece B is hinged the lever O, to which the stoning apparatus is attached. In place of this piece B I may use a three-plate hinge, B', shown in Fig. 3, vwhich will answer precisely the same purpose. To the under side of the lever O are attached two downwardly-proj ectin g Shanks, D D, each having a knife, E, attached to its lower end. These knives are constructed as shown, being about half elliptical, and overlap each other. The 0bject hereof is to make the hole formed by the two blades or knives as small as the smallest peach-seed, and yet expand in every direction to allow the largest seed to pass through, and
at the same time have a cutting surface or edge all around the seed. The shanks D D are intended to spring so as to adjust the blade to tit the various sizes of seed that they may come in contact With, dividing the peach in halves. The object ofthe double joint between the bed A and lever C is to give, if necessary, a backward or forward motion to the knives at the same time as the lever is being pressed downward, so that the knives may readily accommodate themselves to the position of the peach in the groove a on the bed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The within-described peach-stoner, consisting of the grooved bedA, vertical bar B hinged to the bed, lever O hinged to the bar B and provided with the two spriug-shanks D D, and overlapping knives E E, all constructed, ar-
ranged, and operating substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I clainr the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of April, 1872.
JAMES S. LESTER.
