Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QEEIoE.,
JOHN HEWITT, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED BIAS-HOLDERS AND TRUCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,1l46, dated May 28, 1872; antedated May 22, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HEWITT, of the city and county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Bag-Holders combined with Trucks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to 'the letters of reference marked thereon making part of thisspecification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view, the truck being in a perpendicular position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on line w, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top view.
My invention relates to portable bag-holders and truck combined; and consists in an improved device for holding the bags while being filled, and also for supporting the truck in an upright position, all of which will be more fully hereinafter described.
The construction and operation of my inven tion are as follows: A A represent the standards of the frame connected by cross-pieces a a and the bottom flanged piece B. The crosspieces a a are of a concave form, so as to more i! easily hold the bags. The back of the fianged piece B is also concaved, and the bottom part is lia-t and made with a very broad tread, b., so as to easily hold the truck upright independently of the wheels While filling the bag. To the back of the standards A A are journaled suitable truck-wheels F F. Connecting the two cross-pieces a a and the anged foot B is arranged a vertical piece, C, in the center, having a number of holes, c c, in it for adjusting the bag-holder. The bag-holder is of a peculiar construction. It is composed of two rings, D E. The lower one, D, has a projecting ear, d, by means of which the bag-holder is held in position by putting it through one of the holes o, and it is furthermore provided with an upwardly-projecting lip, d', which bears against the back of the piece C. The inside ofthe lower ring D is beveled out, leaving a small flat part, upon which the ring E bears, this ring having its outer side beveled to correspond with the inner surface of the ring D, loosely fitting it. At the back the rings are Ahinged together so as to allow the ring E to heavier the bag the firmer will it be held.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The arrangement of the hinged rings D E, having beveled faces and projecting ear d, l
with lip df, when constructed and applied for operation in the manner shown and Idescribed,
for the purpose herein set forth.
2. The truck herein described, having the anged piece B,with broad tread b, standards A A, center piece O,and cross-pieces a a., when all are constructed and arranged as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination and arrangement of the truck herein described, having the flanged piece B, with broad tread b, and the bag-holder, consisting of the ringsD E, when all these parts are constructed and arranged for operation as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. JOHN HEWITT.
Witnesses:
Jos. T.. K. PLANT, EDWIN JAMES.
