Z SHEETS-SHEET 2- M T N F. V N I JULIUS ZSABKA, OF NEW YORK, N. it.
X-RAY-MACHINJE STAND.
Application/filed January 2, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that][, JULIUS ZSABKA, a subject of the King of Hungary, resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in X-Ray-Macl1ine Stands, of which the following is a specification. 7 I
This invention relates to improvements in stands, and particularly to types used in connection with X-ray machines, dental appliances, and the like.
The principal object of the invention 'is to provide a stand, having a rotatably mounted column supporting a vertically slidable carriage, the same being counterweighted and provided with devices by which it may be clamped securely at any desired height.
This and other by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is aside elevational view, show ing a stand, made in accordance with the invention,.parts being broken away in order to disclose the interior.
Fig. 2is an enlarged sectional on line 22 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a fragmental side elevational view of the carriage supporting column.
Fig. i is an enlarged side elevational and sectional view, showing the lower part of the column and stand, .and
Fig. 5 is a transversesectional on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
n carrying out the invention, use is made of a base 10, havinga-plurality of extending feet elements 11, the base being threaded to receive a bushing 12, having an axial bore 11, to which is fitted the solid end 15 of the tubular column 16, the same resting normally upon an anti-frictional bearing 18, at the top of the bore 141 and held in position by a ring ' 19, the end of the spindle 15 being extended downward so as to be supported at the bottom of the bore 14. J
carriage is slidably arranged upon the column, the same con isting. of apair of spaced rings 20, having four extending projections 21, in which are secured connecting bars 22, while extending from the upper and lower rings are rotatably mounted wheels 25, having a conview taken view taken Specification of Letters Patent.
like objects are attained brackets 24, in which are Serial It 0. 209,913.
cave periphery adapted to make contact with the column 16, as the carriage is moved up and down.
Secured to the upper band 20 is an eye 27, containing the end of a cord 28, thesame extending upward around a pulley 30 mounted at the top of the column 16 and passing downward in its hollow interior, its lower end being engaged with a counterweight 31, balancing the weight of the carriage and the parts which it supports.
The bars 22 are connected by a yoke 33, secured by the screws 34. Said yoke is suited to receive a sliding bar 35, which may be clamped in position by the screw 36. platform or the like may be carried at the end of the bar, for supportingpurposes.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the column may readily rotate upon the anti-frictional bearing, and the carriage can be moved along the column by pressure applied at any point therealong or to the platform 38 carried by it.
In Figs. 4 and 5 a modified is shown in which means are provided for clamping the counterweight 31, the same having a groove 11, formed longitudinally on one side, receptive of a clamp bar 40, hingedly engaged in its upper end at the top and extending longitudinally downward within the column, engaging within the arrangement groove 11 of the counterweight, the bar having at its lower end the stem 13, of a screw 44, threaded through the column 16 in order to move transversely when the head 1-5 is turned.
The stem 43 is clamped to the bar 40, by means of a bushing ac, which extends through the opposite side of the column 16.
Having thus described my invention what T claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is, i
1.111 a stand of the class described, the combination with a rigid base, a column journaled to rotate freely therein, a can riage slidable along said column, Wheels interposed between said carriage and column whereby the former may be moved freely therealong, a cord attached to said carriage, a pulley at the top of said column over which said cord runs, and a counterweight movable within said column, said counterweight being secured to the opposite end of the cord. I p j 2. Tn a stand of the class described, the combination with a rigid base and a hollow Patented unit as, rates column rotatably mounted therein, of a carriage slidable on said column;'anti-frictional elements between said carriage and said column, a counter-balance for said carriage, said counter-balance being movable within said column, and means for clamping said counter-balance at any point within said column, whereby said carriage may be rigidly supported.
3. In a stand of the class described, the combination with a rigid base and a hollow column rotatably mounted therein, of a carriage movable along said column, a cord attached to said carriage, a pulley at the'top attached, a bar within said column hinged thereto at its upper end said counterweight having recesses receptive of said bar and 20 a screw operable from the exterior of said column whereby said bar is caused to clamp said counterweight at any within its length.
desired point In testimony whereof I have allixed my 25 signature.
JULIUS ZSABKA.
