'i To all whom it may concern:
useful Improvements in Bed-Spring Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention pertains to the mounting of mattress frames on bedsteads and the like and has particular reference to constructions of this character wherein the mattress-frame is yieldingly supported. One feature of the present vinvention resides in an efficient method of supporting mattress-frames `in A this lgeneral VWay so thatthey will be cushioned, and it alsocoinprisesf additionallineans for assisting in maintainingthe mattressframe horizontal and properly positioned both lengthwise and transversely of the bedstead.
In the preferred embodiment of this invention a series of springs are employed for` supporting the mattress-frame and another series of centering or supplemental springs are used for assisting in the maintenance of its proper disposition.
In the drawings forming a part of` this specification a desirable embodiment of the invention has been depicted and throughout the various views ofV these drawings like reference characters refer to the same parts.

Inasmuch as the constructions at all four i corners of the bedstead are the same orreversals of one another, an understanding of one of these Will sullice.
The bedstead comprises besides other parts, the usual upright corner-posts l0 and the ordinary detachable side-rar s or bars il, en. which the iraittrese-trarne :is yiialrhnglgy' mounted. Across each end portion of the bedstead and resting upon the bedstead side-rails 11 is a cross-bar 12 composed of a central, tubular portion 13 equippedat each end With a casting 14 having a flat bottom face adapted to rest on the bedstead rail, as shown inligs. 1 and 2.
The mattress-frame includes tubular siderails'V 15, each supplied at each end .With an open casting lprojecting both above and below the side-rail and accommodating one ofthe cross-bars 12. Each member 16 has a socket 16a receiving the end of the siderail and in which it is prevented from movement by a pin 1Gb. 'Ilie top ends of these end pieces or castings are connected together by the usual angle-bars 17, Which carry the mattress-fabric 18 by means ofthe customary helical springs `19.
Each member 16 is supported from one of the cross-bars 12 by means of a coilsidespring 20 connected to a loop or eye 2l on the cross-bar and to an ear 22 in the lower portion of the casting, each of these springs.

Ihe weight of the mattress-frame, its fabric, and the occupants, is borne by the four springsQO, which expand under the Weight imposed upon them, and, due to their opposite inclinations, they tend to hold the inattress-frame `centrally with referencetothe bedstead-frame. They are assisted in this- Work, however, by the supplemental or secondary neutralizing or counter-balancing springs 1214i, 4winch act not enly to hold the mattress-frame centrally in position, but also tend to maintain its horizontal disposition when the fabric is uneveiily loaded, and to prevent excessive swaying or oscillation.
To those skilled in this art, it Will be understoodl that the invention is not limited to the exact features of construction shown,`
because these may be modiiied Within comparatively Wide limits Without sacrificing any of the benefits accruing from the use of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a -construction of the character described, the combination of a mattressframe, supporting means adapted to rest on a bedstead-rame, yielding` means supporting such mattress-frame from said supporting-means, and supplemental centralizing yielding means connecting said mattressframe and supporting-means, substantially as described.

In a construction of the character described, the combination of a mattressframe, supporting means adapted to rest on a bedstead-frame, springs supporting the four corners of said mattress-frame from said supporting-means, and centralizing springs connecting the four corners ot the mattress-frame and said supporting-means, substantially as described.
4. In a construction ofthe character described, the combination of a mattressframe, supporting-means adapted to rest on a bedstead-frame, inclinedI springs constituting the sole supports for the mattress-frame supporting said mattress-frame from said supporting-means, and centralizing` springs connecting said mattress-frame and supporting-means, substantially as described. Ina construction ,of thecharactcr described, the combination 'of a mattressframe, supporting-means adapted to rest on a bedstead-frame, yielding-means supporting said mattress-frame from said supporting-means, and centralizing springs connecting said mattress-frame from said supporting-means, and centralizing springs connecting said mattress-frame and supporting means and each inclined both longitudinally and transversely of the mattress-frame, substanti ally as described.
9. In a construction of the character described, the combination ot a mattressframe, supporting-means adapted to rest on a bedstead-fram, springs constituting the sole supports for the mattress-frame supporting said mattress-frame from said supporting` means and each inclined both longitudinally and vtransversely of the mattressframe, and centraliziiig-springs connecting said mattress-frame and supporting means and each inclined both longitudinally and transversely of the mattress-trame, substantially as described.
10. In a construction oi" the character described, the combination of a mattressii'raine, supporting-means adapted to rest on a bedstead-ramc, mattress-trame supporting springs connected at their upper ends to said supporting means and at their lower ends to said mattress-frame, and restrainin springs connected at their upper ends to said mattress-frame and at their loiver ends to said supporting-means, substantially as described.
11. In a construction oi'' the character described, the combination of a mattressirame, supporting-mcans adapted to rest on a bedstead-fraine, yielding-means supporting said inattress-ifraine trom said supporting-means, and a restraining spring at cach corner of the mattress-trame liaafimr its upper end connected to the mattressframe aud its loiver end connected to said supporting-means, each of said restrniniin?.- springs being inclined upwardly and ont- Wardly both longitudinally and transversely of the mattress-frame, substantially as described.
