UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,263, dated May 28, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Washing-Machines, invented by JOHN P. PAGKER, of Flemington, in the county of Clinton and State of Pennsylvania.
Figure l is a detail vertical section of my improved washing-machine. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are detail views of the different parts.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved washing-machine, simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, convenient in use, and effective in operation, being so constructed that it may be conveniently applied to an ordinary wash-tub or other vessel; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the device, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents an ordinary wash-tub. B is a board or frame placed in and secured to the I bottom of the tub or vessel A. O is a lever,
the lower part of which is made wide, and has holes formed in it. The upper part of the lever C is made narrow, and is rounded off so that it may be conveniently grasped with the hand. The lower end of the lever G is pivoted or hinged to the board or frame B by means of hinges, pins, bolts, tenons, and mortises or other convenient means, so that the said lever may be moved back and forth to wash the clothesby pressing them against the board D, board E, or the side of the tub or vessel A, to squeeze out the water, and then allow ing the clothes to fall back into the water to become again saturated. D is an ordinary wash or rubbing board, the lower end of which is hinged, pivoted, or otherwise secured to the and board E may have perforations formed in them if desired to let the water squeezed from the clothes pass through. The board or frame B is not essential. The lower ends of the lever G, wash-board D, and board E may be secured directly to the bottom of the tub or vessel A if desired, or the lever may be pivoted to the side or top of the tub or vessel.
Having thus described my invention, claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Two wash-boards, D E, and intermediate lever 0, combined with and hinged to the piece B in the bottom of wash-tub, as and for the purpose described.
' JOHN P. PAOKER.
