atent. July ed into the bore of the valve stem, the cap loosely -fits around the outer circumference of the stem, thus assuring against any didiculties being experienced in removing the cap from said stem, and the air-tigl'it`connection between the cap and valve stem is caused by the threading of the collar 17 011 the ezrteriorly threaded lower end 16 of the cup-shaped body portion 7.
The specific form of cap and plug illus-A trated in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing, and
furthermore which is the preferred form of' the invention, is adaptable for use onthe Schraeder type of tire valve stem.
The modified form of invention shown in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawing illustrates the outer periphery of the lower end out the cupshaped body portion 7 Unthreaded and is used on valve stems without the employment of the coliar 17.A In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 5 ot' the'drawing the bore of the plug has seated therein a packing `sleeve 2O which is of a length greater than the length of the bore 10 of the plug, providing the same with a protruding extremity 21, whereby upon the screwing of the plugwithin the bore of the valve stem, the protruding extremity 21 of the packing will first engage with the valve seat 22 previous to the screwing action of the exteriorly threaded end in the interior-ly threaded cavity 11.
The further modified form of invention illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawing shows the cup-shaped body portion 7 as interiorly threaded, denoted by the reference character 24 adapted to threadedly connect the cap to the eXteriorly threaded portion of the stem, for the reason that the cup body in this partieular instance is shownwith the exterior' threads omitted therefrom. A packing sleeve 25 is mounted Within the bore of the plug and performs the same function as that the advantages of construction and the4 method of operation of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled inthe art to which ille invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be Ithe best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claims. y
What is claimed as new, is:-
1. In combination with a valve stem, ka cap comprising an externally threaded cup portion slidably engageable upon the valve stem, a gasket within said cup portion engageable upon the end of the stem, a metallic sleeve threaded upon the valve stem and having an internally threaded flange engagedA upon the (exterior of the cap, and a gasket between said sleeve and the end of able within the valveI stem and provided with a bore terminating in a recess receiving the valve plunger, and a tubular gasket Within said bore and extending beyond -the end of said plugr for engagement with the valve seat within the stem.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
