To all whom it may Gomera.'
Be it known that I, RALPH E. Dnoirn'rr, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the County of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Combined Fork and Spoon, of wi i the following is a specification in s and Clear terms as wiii enable those s the art construct and This invention relates and. spoon, and object is 'to produce a and spoon for the purpose ot hastin turning roasts when Cooking, or for pose of expeditingr service in a canu restaurant, the object being to provide i. single instrument. either a ieri; or a :spoon as may be required hy the operator the moment.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings in which the ,saine reference numeral is applied to tho same portion throughout, but ain aware that there may be modifications thereof.
Figure 1 is a plan View oithe fork and spoon,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the fork and spoon,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the eoinhined fork and spoon showing the fork retracted when the spoon is to be used for basting purposesV or for dipping up gravy.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan vienT of the end of the spoon handle, and
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional View of the spoon on the line 5 5 Fig. i.
The spoon is shown at l, and it has a suitable flat handle Q, which is turnedy over at the end as illustrated at 3 'tor the purpose of holding the fork and spoon in either one of the two positions in which they are normally used in a manner to he presently enplained. The spoon has in the hottoin thereof two channels 5 and fi through which oonioined combined the fork tines pass. The fork hes two tines 7 and 8` which tines are twisted together as illustrated at 9 and widen at 1G to *form o. slot through which the downtnrned portion 3 of the spoon handle can travel. The reiation of the fork to the spoon is such that when the fork tines are withdrawn into the spoon. as illustrated in Fig. 3, the downturned portion 3 of the spoon handle 2 will engage the widened portion 10 of the fork 5L;
handle with suiicient, force to prevent the .ntal disiodgment ot the fork and from each other.
hen the fork tines are projected beyond iiespooii, the end of the spoon handle may 60 Je torced over the end of the fork handle, "as,
'iiiistrated in Figs. l and 2, and the fric ii'i'inafi engagement of the two handle ends, iii Toe suliiciently stiff to prevent the acciin that position as well.
Shouid it be desired to use the two instru-i ments separately, they may be immediately by separating the handles from each other and pulling the fork o ut ofthe 'Illv spoon. Having thus described my inyenti'onwhat. l claim new and desire to secure by Let- Patent of the United States is as fol'- lows, express resorvatioi'i being made of per- 75 niissible modifications.
