STORAGE BATTEBY.
Specieation ot Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1918.
Application filed May 21, 1 917. sma No. 169396.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRUCE F om), a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia. in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Storage Batteries, of which the following is :t specifi tion The cells of some storage batteries, more especially the storage batteries of subma- 'ine and other beats, do not contact with euch other and space, utilized for wedges, is left between their walls. This space is desiruble for purposes of ventilation, drainage and cooling, but is undesirable because extrneous objects are likely to fall into it, and 'the m'mngenent of the cells with sace between them is not well suited to a ord men an opportunity to walk on top of the cells as they sometimes wish to do for purposes of inspection .and repzirs.
It is the object of the present invention to provide :i combing which will cover the space refe'rcd to, which can be easily applied, which will not interfere with proper drainage, cooling and ventihtion, and which ;Llfords :i good foot-hold for men to walk on.
The invention will he claimed ut the end hereof but Will be first described in connection with the e'hodiment of it chosen for illustrztion in th' zccompanying drawing in whi3h--- Figur( l. is :L to;) nr plan View of u porlion ol a buttery provided between its cells with a combing embodying features of the ilnvir li.
i tu. Li u side View, partly in section, of lhzsum\ ligj. Zh is a sectionzl view, drwn to an enlarqm Sk'fllt\ of the wnhing and showing a port io of? the cclls t which it is applied.
Fig. 4, is side 'Ylt'W of' the conbing, and
Fg. 5, is the combing.
a plan View of the under side of The cobing consists of a head 1, provided with a web 2, and t hes :L seres of spaced otches 3, extending web and under in the direction of the eath the head. The ends of fiexible,
and one advantage of this is that the combing pieces can be installed underneath the vent ilating ducte` 5, and copper connecter? by bending and curling them around and undernezth these Again, being of soft obstruction& rubber, these conbng pieces adjust themselves to the making of a good fit, and they afl'ord u nice finish and meke a good foot-path for men to Walk on over the to'ps of the cells.
The notches 3,
provide drainage to the bottom of the bat- -tery conpartment for :my
electrolyte, wh top of the cells,
water or spilled Ich might otherwise lie on and the notches also provde for air circulation which tends to cool the ters or otherwise than :ppended chu's may claim as the prior art and requre.
