TICKET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented July 2, l lldi Application filed January 25, 1918. Serial No. 213,771.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK WVILLIAM RABBE, a subject of the King of Great Brit ain, and resident of the city of Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of (lanada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ticket holders and the objects of the invention are to permit of the tickets being fed separately from the holder to suit the requirements of the user, to facilitate gripping the second or consecutive. ticket with the feeding member when the top ticket has been dispensed, to prevent the tickets fall ing or being forced out of the bottom end of the holder, to simplify the construction, and generally to adapt the several parts to better perform the functions required of them.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially of the improved construction particularly described and set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings forming part of the same.
In the drawings;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im proved ticket holder.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 22 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the spring controlled feeding or dispensing member.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures Referring to the drawings, A represents the improved ticket holder consisting of a rectangular casing 10, having slots 11 and 12 in the upper end adjacent to the front and back walls thereof, the lower end of the easing being open.
This casing is subdivided into two compartments 8 and 9 by the longitudinally extending wall 13, the front and back faces of which are ofl'set at the upper end terminating at the edge of the slots 11 and 12 so acting as a guide for the tickets to the slots as the tickets are being dispensed from the holder.
The lower end of the wall 13 is provided on opposite faces with oflset projecting me rmv bers 15 which prevent the tickets from dropping or being forced out of the bottom end of the holder.
When the tickets are placed in the con1- partments 8 and 9 they lie along the faces of the dividing wall 13 and after the tickets have passed the projection 15 they cannot be withdrawn through the bottom of the holder.
The front and back walls of the holder are provided with longitudinally extending slots 16 in each of which a button 18 is slidably mounted, the inner end of the said button being soldered or otherwise attached to a dispensing fork 20 by means of which the tickets are fed from the holder.
This fork 20 is of unique construction and consists of a piece of resilient wire bent in substantially lJ-shape, the arms of the said U-shaped portion being offset as shown at 21 where it is soldered or otherwise con nected to the button 18.
The arms of the ll-shaped portion are coiled intermediate of their length to add to resiliency of the fork and the free ends are then bent in curvilinear formation as shown at 2.3 and provided with points 24: which will engage with the back of the tickets in the holder.
This dispensing fork is designed to be retracted by the operator gripping the button 18 and drawing it to the lower end of the slot- 16 but on the button becoming released it is desirable that the dispensing fork 20 should automatically return to its normal. upward position and so feed the ticket through either of the slots 11 or 12, depending on which tickets are being used and to this end ll provide spiral springs 25 which are attached to the inner face of the front and back walls of the compartments 8 and 9, the free end of the spring in each compartment passing between the ofiset portion 21 of the dis-v pensing fork and the wall of the said compartment where it engages with the stem of the button 18.
When the holder is in use tickets of difl'erent types are placed in the compartments 8 and 9, for instance Sunday tickets may be placed in the compartment 8 and ordinary week day tickets in the compartment 9.
"When a traveler desires to use a ticket when boardin a car, he pulls the button 18 downwardly to the end of the slot- 16 where he releases the button and the dispensing fork 20, the pointed offset ends 24 of which have engaged with the ticket, will be forced upwardly under the action of the spring and so push the ticket through the slot at the top of the compartment Where it is gripped by the fingers and pulled out.
During the action of pulling the button 18 to end of the slot 16, the tickets cannot be forced through'the open bottom of the container owing to the fact that the offset projections 15 engage with the bottoms of the tickets and prevent their becoming displaced in any way.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying drawings and specification shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A ticket holder comprising a casing with slots for the discharge of the tickets, a longitudinally extending division wall in the casing having an upper offset end and subdividmgthe casing into two compartments, means on said division wall to prevent the tickets being lost out of the rear end of the casing a dispensing member in each compartment comprising a resilient wire bent in U shape and coiled intermediate of its length the free ends of the wire being bent in curvilinear shape and with pointed ends, a button working in a slot in the casing and operatively connected to the dispensing member and resilient means for returning the dispensing member to a normal position.
2. A ticket holder comprising a casing with slots for the discharge of the tickets, a longitudinally extending division wall in the casing having an upper oflset end and subdividing the easing into two compartments, a dispensing member in each compartment comprising a resilient wire bent in U-shape and coiled intermediate of its length, the free ends of the wire being bent in curvilinear shape and provided with pointed ends, a button working in a slot in the casing and operatively connected to the dispensing member and resilient means -for returning the dispensing member to a normal position.
3. A ticket holder comprising a casing having slots in the upper end and open in the lower end, a dividing wall in the casing, projections on the lower end of the dividing wall, movable dispensing means in the easing and resilient means for returning the dispensing means to a normal position.
4:. A ticket holder comprising a casing having slots in the upper end and open in the lower end, a wall in the casing dividing it into two compartments having its upper end ofiset curvilinearly to form guides to direct the tickets to the slots, movable dispensing means in each compartment comprising a forked member having an oll'set end, a button operatively connected to the offset end and a spiral spring having its free end underlying the offset end of the dispensing member and engaging with the button.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of a witness.
