BOBBIN-STRIPPER.

Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. COTTING- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Union, in the county of Union and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bobbin- Strippers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, Vand exact descriptlon of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
vThe present invention relates to improvements in bobbin strippers, and has for one lobject to produce an improved machine for quickly and effectively removing the residue of the roving from the bobbin after the bobbin has becomepractically exhausted and is removed from the spinning frame.
The improved stripper will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 `is a rear elevational view of an improved bobbin stripper constructed in accordance with the present invention; and
Fi`g.`2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate end pieces of a framework, which are connected together by beams 3 and' and a rod 5.
Supported in any suitable manner in this framework is a casing 6, having its upper end opened as indicated at 7, and containing anpair of superposed stripper rolls 8 and 9 revolving on shafts 10 and 11, respectively. These shafts pass through the end walls oi' the casing 6 and are journaled in the end pieces 1 and 2 of the framework.
Therolls or cylinders 8 and 9 arev each covered with a stripper fillet 12 and 13 which ispreferablyo f fine wire, and the upper roll 8 isexposedth'rough the'opening 7 of the casing, `so vthat an operator may place the Y ,loobbins thereon in the manner shown at 14 infFig.,2. These bobbins 14 are held in this position by the hand of the operator until the bobbin has been completely cleaned;
The casing 6 has the back wall thereof extended` to form a flange 15which provides an abutment against which the bobbin may rest if desired, and which catches the bobbin if same escapes the hand of the operator, preventing such bobbin from .entering the casing 6. .Y
The bobbins are contained in a trough 16 held upon a bracket 17 secured in any desired manner to the framework, and there is preferably an apron 18 constitutinfr part of the casing 6, being bent over therefrom and engaging with an upper edge of the trough 16 in the manner best illustrated in Fig. 2.
The upper shaft 10 is provided with a pulley 19, while the lower shaft is furnished with a pulley 2O of smaller diameter, whereby to drive the lower stripper roll 9 at an increased speed over that of the upper stripper roll 8.
An open belt 21 connects the pulley 19 with a pulley 22 on a drive shaft 23; and a crossed belt 24 similarly connects the pulley 20 to a pulley 25, also on the drive shaft 23. A power belt 26 provides for driving this shaft 23 and engages with fast and loose pulleys 27 and 28; it being moved to be cngaged by a belt shifter 29.
On the drive shaft 23 is also a fan or other suction producing device 30, communicating with the lower end of the casing 6 by a pipe 31, and serving to draw air from the atmosphere into the opening 7 and past the stripper rolls 8 and 9, for the purpose of removing the roving, which has been stripped from the bobbins, therefrom. After being withdrawn from the casing 6 by the fan 30, this roving is delivered to a suitable receptacle through a pipe 32.
In use the power belt 26 is shifted to the fast pulley 28, which thereupon puts the drive shaft 23 in motion. The drive shaft 23 in turn,through the belts 21 and 24, communicates a rotary movement to the shafts 10 and 11, such movement being in opposite directions and resulting` in driving the lower shaft 11, and its stripper roll 9, at an increased speed over that of the upper shaft 10 and its stripper roll 8. The fillet 13 on the lower stripper roll 9, by reason of its con tact with the fillet 12 on the uper roll 8, will having a combing effect on the upper fillet 12,
