IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES AND HAT RACKS CQMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,022, dated May 21, 1872; antedated May 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR F. BURGESS, of Decorah,,in the county of Winneshiek and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Clothes and Hat Rack; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a combined clothes and hat rack, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing which represents a side View of my rack.
A represents a square standard or post of any suitable dimensions, provided with feet B B at its lower end, said feet spreading sufficiently to form a firm support for the clothesrack. O 0 represent the arms, which are fastened one on each side of the post near the edge by a screw at the extremity of the'arm, and is supported by a pin, I), inserted into and near the opposite edge of the standard, each arm being independent of all the other arms. Any number of arms desired may be thus attached and supported on each of the four sides of the standard. The pins D D that support the arms are to be left long enough to serve the purpose of hanging hats and caps or other articles. By removing the pins D D the arms 0 C may be folded down along the sides of the standard, and held there by the pins when they are again inserted.
To operate or open the rack, take out the pins on the right-hand corner then raise the arms to the right to a horizontal position, commencing at the top, and place the pins in the holes again to support them. For closing commence at the bottom.
The arms 0 (l are to be riveted, as shown, just in front of the screw-holes, where they are attached to the standard to keep them from splitting.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described clothes and hat rack, consisting of the square standard or post A, feet B B, arms 0 G, and pins D D, all constructed and arranged to operate, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of October, 1871.
OSCAR F. BURGESS.
