Gauze-Roman.

To all whom it may concern) Be it known that I, MARY Lonrsn MocHoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lead, in'the county of Lawrence and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gauze-Rollers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in gauze rollers and has for one of its objects the provision of a roller upon which the gauze may be uniformly and tightly rolled.

Another object of this invention is to pro vide a roller so constructed as to permit it to be removably attached to a length of gauze and rolled upon a table whereby the gauze will be tightly and uniformly rolled.

A further ob ect of this invention is to provide a' gauze roller which will eliminate waste due to the fact that the auze will be properly and tightly rolled or use as a surgical dressing.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a gauze roller of this character, which will be simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and one than can be manufactured and sold at a low cost.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features, combination and arrangement of parts here inafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a pair of handles which are substantially cylindrical in cross section. The handles are formed of wood or any other material suitable for the purpose.

cular head 7, the enlar ement 6 being concentric with relation to 1ts respective head 7. The heads 7 are provided with a pair of rela tively spaced inwardly extending bores 8, which bores have their inner ends terminating into the handles 5.. A cylindrical pin 9, has one end ren'lovably secured in one bore of each head and handle respectively. The pinsare formed of steel or other suitable non-rusting material and are of sufiicient length to compensate for the standard type of gauze to be rolled. The free end of each pin is adapted to enter the other bore of.each head and handle when said handles are moved longitudinally in the direction of each other thereby removably connecting the handles together in gauze rolling position.

It is to be understood that the diameter of the pins is as large as the diameter of the bores so that when the pins are fitted within said bores they will be held therein against accidental displacement under ordinary con ditions.

In use, the gauze to be rolled is folded ac cording to the directions given in the War Manual, and the gauze after being folded is laid upon a table and has one end fastened thereto by arranging a piece of wood over the gauze and fastenln it to the table with a suitable clamp. The andles are then disconnected, leaving a pin in each handle. One pin is laid transversely across the upper side of the gauze and the other pin is arranged on the under side of the gauze adjacent the free end thereof. The handles are then moved longitudinally in the direction of each other and the free end of each pin moved into the bore of each handle until the opposite sides of the gauze are in contact with the opposing faces of the circular heads of the handles. The roller is now in position to start to roll along a table and wind up the gauze upon the pins. By rolling along the table in the direction of the clamp the auze will be wrapped about the pins and In pulling slightly in the direction of the person operating the roller on the table the gauze will be tightened upon the roller. After the gauze has been completely rolled, the handles are removed from their respective pins and the pins removed from the gauze and the said gauze is tied.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. A gauze roller comprising a pair of handles each having one end enlarged and terminating into a circular head, which heads are each provided with a air-of relatively spaced inwardly extending bores, a pin removably carried by each head having one end fitted in one of the bores and the free end of each pin adapted to be moved into the other-bore of the adjacent handle, said circular enlargements permitting the handles to be rolled along a tabletop =or plther support, as and for the purposesp'ecb ed. r
