IN VEN TOR.
#4524 TTORNEYQ THEODORE IPAROBI, OF DUNDEE LAKE, NEW JERSEY.
I SHOE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1918.
Application filed July 27, 1917. Serial No. 183,057.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE PAROBI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria and a resident of Dundee-Lake, county of ldergen, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Shoes,
- of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shoes, and has as its special object the provision of means whereby water or moisture is prevented from entering the interior of the shoe, the same being renderedthoroughly waterproof by the construction described.
A further object is to provide such means in a form which presents no peculiar or 0bjectionableappearance.
This invention is particularly useful to people obliged to walk or stand in snow or mud, the moisture soon serving to saturate the material of which shoes are usually constructed, thereby rendering" the foot of the wearer uncomfortable and causing him to be liable to colds and more serious complications arising therefrom. At the same time, the use of the invention dispenses with the necessity of wearing of rubbers, overshoes or other exterior foot covering.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view, taken through the shoe made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The shoe indicated by the numeral 10 may be made in any conventional design or type desired, the peculiar construction employed, however, having an inner lining 14, of soft pliable leather, the same extending over the innersole and up upon the up per of the shoe as indicated. The shoe con- I sists, it will be noted, of the overlapping upper and lower sections designated respectively 1 and 2, which are secured together midway ofthe shoe. It will be observed that the waterproof filler sole 15 extends up upon the upper to the connection between the upper and lower parts thereof.
Qcplep at this patent may he obtained for longitudinal center, of a The welt sole 16 of the shoe 10 is attached in the ordinary manner, while immediately above and below are fillers 15 and 17, to which the outer sole 18 is applied, while the heel 19, comprised of a plurality of lifts, is attached in the usual manner.
Both filler soles 15 and 17 are made of an impervious substance, preferably the bladder of animals, such as a hog, the same having beemthoroughly impregnated with -a composition consisting of shoe-makers wax in the form of a black tarry pitch, fish or whale oil, and beef suet, all being melted and intimately commingled, in which compositio the bladders are boiled so as to be thoroughly saturated, and in which condition they are cut and used as indicated, the composition rendering them absolutely waterproof.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that a waterproof shoe has been disclosed, which has the same appearance as an ordinary shoe, and which can be constructed at substantially the same cost, furthermore that the shoe will be as flexible and easy to wear as that made by ordinary processes.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A shoe consisting of an upper section and a lower section of leather, the lower section overlapping the upper section midway of the shoe, the overlapping portions of both sections. being secured together, an inner sole to which the lower shoe section is secured, a moisture-proof lining having its opposite end edges projecting in line with the edges of the upper section and overlying said inner sole, a leather lining overlying the inner face of the lower section and upper section as well as said moisture-proof lining, and a similar moisture-proof lining as the first-moisture-proof lining placed between said inner sole and an outer sole attached thereto.
In testimonywhereof I have afiixed my signature.
THEODORE PAROBI.
