Each of these wings is then folded back inithe direction of the fold line 65 along lines 6, and hen along lines f registering. with the fold line d, so that the wings are folded back upon themselves along the lines f and have their lower corners disposed beneath the adjacent sides of the adjacent box plait 2. In thus folding the blank the body will be caused to assume a general hollow dome shape and by reason of the several folds and the presence of the box plait, will possess a fullness permitting of its expansion to adapt it to perform the function of a cap crown without interfering with the arrangement of the hair. Furthermore, the entire margin of the blank when thus folded will lie on a straight line as will be apparent by reference to Fig. 3 of the drawings.

The flaps of the article, indicated by the numeral 3, are each formed from a blank such as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings and this blank is rectangular and is folded longitudinally medially along the line g. The blank is also folded along the lines h, parallel to each longitudinal edge of the blank, to form hems 4L and these edges of the blank are disposed against the inner and outer faces of the marginal portion of the body 1, as clearly shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings, and are united thereto by a line of stitching 5. The said edge portions of the flap 3 may be further united to the marginal portion of the body 1 by a line of stitching 6 extending parallel to the line of stitching 5. A line of stitching 7 is also passed through the spaced portions or folds. Thus between the lines of stitching 6 and 7 in each flap there is formed a pocket or hem 8 in which the draw members heretofore referred to are housed. It will be understood at this point that the lines of stitching 5 and 6 serve not only to unite the flaps to the body of the article but also to secure the triangular wings heretofore referred to in their folded condition and thereby prevent expansion of the rim of the body 1 beyond a certain limit although not in any way interfering with the expansion of the body proper in taking advantage of the fullness provided by the several folds therein heretofore described. By reference to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings it will be observed that the ends of the flap 8 meet each other at the opposite sides of the article without, however, being united, so

that the pocket or hem 8 in each flap is open at both ends to permit of the passage therethrough of the draw members heretofore referred to.

There are two of the above-mentioned draw members provided each of which comprises a cord 9 which is looped and has the sides of its loop loosely threaded through the hems 8 in the two flaps 3, the loops being threaded through in opposite directions, or, in other words, being oppositely disposed so that the end of one loop will extend beyond one side of the article and the end of the other loop will extend beyond the other side of the article. It will now be understood that when the projecting ends of the loops are pulled in opposite directions, or, in other words, outwardly from the article, the opening or mouth of the article will be contracted and thus when the article is employed as a hand bag the members 9 will serve as draw strings and the projecting ends thereof will serve as wrist loops. hen the article is employed as a cap and is applied to the head, the projecting ends of the loops 9 are brought beneath the chin, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and connected together preferably by the engagement of a button 10 upon one loop within the extended end of the other loop. Of course, in drawing the loops beneath the chin the loops will serve in the manner of draw strings and will cause the rim of the crown or body member 1 to more or less snugly fit the head.

It will further be observed by reference to Fig. 6 that the blank shown in this figure is to be folded along lines 11 parallel to each end edge so that the ends of the flaps 3 will present a neat appearance.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In an article of the class described, a body member having a box seam extending transversely thereof and further provided with wings located at the opposite sides of the box seam and having their lower edges lying in the rim line of the body member, the folds forming the wings being closed at said rim line of the body.

2. In an article of the class described, a body or crown member having a box plait extending transversely thereof, the body at each side of the box plait being formed with two ply wings, the plies of the wings being mutually disconnected except at their line of juncture and at their lower edges where they are secured to each other and to the lower edges of the sides of the body member, and a hem member having plies secured to the inner and outer faces of the sides, front and back of the body member and receiving and binding the said lower edges of the body member.
