TOILET BOX. APPLlcAloN map `Mov. 6. 191s.
Patented June 11, 1918.
Hihi.
MICHAEL J. NOLAN, Olli CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
'renier-non.
recaen?.
Application filed November 6. 1916.
To all whom t may concern;
Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. NoLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook andv State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Toilet-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a art of this specification.
This invention relates to a novel toilet article in the nature of a combined powder and rouge box for ladies use, embracing in a unitary structure, a separate compartment for each a face powder and a rouge block and a powder pull for each block, the parts being arranged to provide a compact multicontainer provided with separate end closures, whereby the puffs may be separately used at will.
The invention consists in the combination and `arrangement of the parts shown in the drawings and described in the specification, and the invention is pointed out in the appended claim. A
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toilet box embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is an axial section thereof.
The box shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises two cylindric or other suitably shaped shells 10, 11 axially alined and arranged end to end, a transverse partition or diaphragm 12 between the ends of the shells, a band 13 y surrounding the shells and overlapping said shells a distance above and below said partition and top and bottom covers 14., 15, fitted to the upper and. lower open ends of the shells l0 and 11 respectively. The diameter of the diaphragm 12 is equal to the external diameter of the shells, so that the periphery of the partition is coincident with the circumference of the shells. Said shells abut squarely against the upper and lower faces of said partition and may be pasted thereto.
The band or ring 13 surrounds the connectedshells at the union between the same and the partition or diaphragm and is glued, cemented or otherwise secured to said shells. By reason of the overlapping of said ring a -distance beyond the proximate marginal portions of said shells, and by reason of the bridging of said ring across the ed e ofv said partition, said ring serves, not on y to join the shell members together, but also Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 129,732.
to fix the said partition reliably to the members of the two part shell, and further to produce a very strong and 'rugged box.
The top and bottom covers 14 and 15 are provided with flanges 17 and 18, respectively, which telescope over the opposite ends of said shells to close the upper and lower compartments between the central partition 12 and said end covers. Preferably said cover flanges are made of a length to abut at their free or inner edges against the opposite edges of the band or ring `13 and said cover flanges will preferably be made of the same thickness as said ring 13 so that the cover rims or flanges lit flush against said band or ring, and the complete box is cylindrically continuous or unbroken from end to end. Preferably the said bandv or ring 13 is made of some width so as to afford, in addition to its function of binding together the upper and lower shells' of the box and fixing the partition or diaphragm relatively to said shells, a grippingior holding member which may be engaged by one hand of the 'user to l'iold the box when one of the covers is to be removed and thereby avoid dislodging the other cover.
I The ring 13, in addition to it'- function of uniting the upper and lower shells and the intermediate partition of the box and affording a grip by which the box, as a whole,
may be held whilel a cover is removed thereirom, constitutes also a suitably cimensloned annular area to receive a label.
rlhe single diaphragm or partition 12 con-- sititues a backing and support at one side for a block 25 of face powder and at its .other side a support and backing for a blockV 26 of rouge; the powder and rouge bein preferably mixed with a binder by whic the shape and dimensions of the material are maintained. rIhe chambers or compartments between the block supporting and backing partition 12 and the end covers are preferably made suciently deep to receive the usual powder puffs 27, 28.
In some instances the diaphragm 12 of Fig. 2 may be an integral part of one of the shell members 10 or 11.
I claim as my invention:
A toilet box of the character described, comprising shells of equal diameters arranged in axial alinenient with each other and disposed end to end, a disk like partition interposed between the adjacent inner ends of said shells, the peripheral edge of the partition being ush With the outer sur# faces of the shells and the inner ends of the letter abutting seid partition, ,a relatively Wide baind eoncentrioally of the shells medially thereof and overlapping the seme e distance above and below the partition, endl covers having rims removaby telescope@d oven the outer endsof seid shells with the outer faces of seid rims and bend iueh with ilo each other.
In witness Wioereoic claim the foregoing y MXCHAEL J. NOLAN.
