This invention is an improvement in surglcal apparatus and has" particular reference to an adjustable cradle.
An object of the invention is the provision of a cradle for supporting the bed clothing and principally employed in abdominal cases and which may also be utilized for protecting the arms and legs of a patient whereby to prevent the clothing from coming in contact with the patient and, incarrying out I this object, use is made of a pair of frames adjustable longitudinally relative to each other, each frame consisting of sections which are laterally adjustable relative to each other so that the entire device may be properly mounted over difi'erent parts of the body.
Another object is to so construct the frame and sections thereof that the same may be readily and quickly disassembled whereby the parts may be cleaned and sterilized.
A further object is, the provision of a device of this character whichis simple in construction, easy to manufacture and effective in carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accom panying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cradle constructed in accordance with the invention.

a main frame generally indicated by the -numeral 10 and an auxiliary frame 11 adjustable longitudinally of said main frame.
The main frame 10consists of a pair of complemental sections generally indicated by the numeral 12, each section comprising a plurality of longitudinal ribs 13 arranged in spaced parallel relation and connected by the relatively wide transverse end and intermediate ribs 14: and 15 respectively arranged on the inner sides of said longitudinal ribs and secured thereto in any preferred manner. The inner adjacent ends of the ribs 14: and 15 are curved as indicated at 16 and when the frame 10 is assembled these inner ends are adapted to overlap. In order to secure said ends in overlapping relation there is preferably provided a central longitudinally extending, relatively stationary bar 17 having a plurality of transverse guide members 18 secured thereto by soldering or otherwise, said guide members corresponding in number to the number of transverse ribs 14: and 15. These guide members are provided withfoppositely disposed flanges 19 and the intermediate member receives therebetween the overlapping ends of the intermediate transverse ribs 15 of the two sections of the main frame. The adjacent overlapping endsof the end transverse ribs are provided with longitudinal slots 20 which register with each other and receive therein the fastening bolts or screws 21 one of which extendsthrough the central bar 17 and said screws have mounted thereon the wing nuts 22 which, when tightened, will maintain the sections of the main frame in adjusted positions, it being understood that said sections are adjustable laterally relative to each other and to the central bar 17 The auxiliary frame 11 preferably comprises a central bar 23, carrying a guide member 24 for receiving the inner end of the bar 17 whichis slidably mounted in said guide member 24:, and said bar 23 has a longitudinal slot 25 therein for receiving comprises a pair of sections, each of which consists of a transverse rib 26 having the longitudinal ribs 27 extending therefrom and engageable in guide members 28 carried by the inner ends of the longitudinal ribs 13 of the main frame 10 thus maintaining the frames in operative relation andpermitting of a relative longitudinal adjustment. The
outer end of the 'bar 23 is provided with a transverse guide member 29, similar in construction to the guide members 18 and receiving ribs 26 of the auxiliary frame, which ends are provided with elongated registering slots 30 which recei e the screw fastener 31 having the Wing nut 32 mounted thereon for the purpose of screwing the sections of theaun iliary frame in adjusted position.
The inner transverse ribs of the sections of the main frame 10 are extended as indi- .cated at 33 and have pivoted thereto the ribs 34 of the main frame. Each rib 34; has pivoted to its free end an arm 35 which extends laterally therefrom and longitudinally of the adjacent rib of the main frame, and is provided with a longitudinal. slot 36 for receiving a screw fastener 37 carried by the said adjacent transverse rib and hav mg a wing nut 38 thereon for engag ng said slotted arm to maintain the rib 3.4; in adjusted positions.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that the sections of the main and auxiliary frames may be adjusted laterally,
relative to each other and that the frames are adjustable longitudinally of each other by unscrewing the several wing nuts and then tightening the same to secure all of the parts in their adjusted positions. It
will also be seen that by removing the several wing nuts and screws the parts may be disassembled for the purpose of cleaning and sterilizing the same.
