Be it known that I, Esme B. Wnrrn, a citizen of the United States, tesiding at South Bend, :in the county of Saint Joseph and Stateof Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvenoents in Valve- Grinding Tools, of which the following is a specification. y y
This invention relates to a valve grinding tool and more particularly to an in' proved implement for imparting a. reeiprocatory motion to the disks they may be ground after becoming worn from constant use.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an implement adapted tube attached to the valve disk whereby the disk may be rotated in its seat for grinding both the seat and the disk.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device oi this clniracler that. may be used in connection with various types oi valvedisks, the valve engaging members of the implement being adapted to receive either a slotted disk or the disk of the type usually provided with oppositely disposed recesses on their top surfaces.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a valve grinding tool which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and Well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.

The lower end of the operating shaft 1 carries a valve member 5 which is constructed similar to the ordinary screw driver, the end being Wedgeshaped whereby it may be inserted in the slot in the top of a valve disk. The auxiliary valve engagin member 7 consists of a casing of substantially rectangular formation as clearly shown by Figs. 4: and 5 of the drawing and is open at each end. The top wall 9 of the casing is provided with a slot 10 through which the operating shaft 1 is extended and the lower wall 11 is provided with a slot 12 which is longer than the slot 10 and is adapted to receive the studs 13 which are adapted to be extended into the depressions or circular recesses in the top of the valve whereby the valve may be rotated. The upper ends which extend in the interior of the casing, are provided with screw threads for receiv ing the nuts 14 which are disposed within the casing and the studs are also provided with nuts 15 disposed on the exterior of the casing and bearing against the bottom wall 11 thereof. The screw threads together with the nuts 14 and 15 permit an adjustment of the studs 13 when it is desired to adjust the length ofthe stud. It will be observed that the slot 12 permits-the studs 13 to be moved closer together if the holes in the valve are close together.

I claim:
"The valve grinding tool comprising a spiral shaft having an operating sleeve mounted thereon tor turning the said shaft, a hollow cas'i'n'g mounted on the lower ends of the shaft and including a substantially rectangular member having both ends open the bottom wall of the casing being provided with a longitudinal slot having the lower end of the said shaft extended therethrough, the upper wall of the casing also having a slot of relatively less length than the lower slot, studs mounted in the ends of the said lower slot, the interior of said casing being provided with a pair of nuts of a width equal to the width of the said casing whereby the said nuts will ,be prevented from turning, the said studs having screw threaded ends adapted to be received in the said nuts, the said elongated slot in the lower portion of the casing permitting lon gitudinal adjustment of the studs toward and away from each otlier.
