Description

FFIGE.
JOHN STEPHENSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN STREET-CARS.
(Lisa B.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Street-Oars, invented by JOHN STEPHENSON, of the city, county, and State of New York.
This invention relates to a new and useful Improvement in cars for street railway, chiefly valuable in cars With fare-boxes, more especially when the car is managed by the driver only; and it consists in one or more sliding panels in the front door of the car, the construction being as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a view of the front end of the car. Fig. 2 is avertical cross-section of the door taken on the line a; w of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the door in the front end of the car to admit the driver onto the drivers platform. B B are sliding panels therein, made of glass or other suitable material. 1
In managing cars of the description above referred to it is desirable that passengers obtained through a change-gate in the door.
In warm weather this arrangement is objectionable, as the closed door prevents a free circulation of air through the car, which is a serious inconvenience to passengers. My invention obviates this objection. The panels B (one or more) are secured in grooves in the door so that they will readily slide up and 'down. The door may be made so as to allow as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- In a street-car of the general construction shown, I claim a sliding door provided with sliding panels, as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN STEPHENSON.
