LEONIDAS D. WEST, OF DENVER, COLOMBO.
FUEL-SAVER AND SMOKE-CONSUMER.
Application led June 12, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LnoNiDAs D. VVns'r, a, citizen of the United States, resdin r at Denver, in the county of Denver and tate` of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FuehSaverS and. Smoke-Consumers; and I do declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to those devices intended to augment combustion by the iujcc tion of a restrictrd quantity ot highly heated air or other Huid into the combustion chambers or other suitable parts ot coolstoves, ranges, small furnaces, Water heatv ers, and analogous fuel burning means.
The principal object of thc invention is to provide a device of the class described which may be easily and inexpensively manufactured and marketed, and readily applied to numerous types of stoves, ranges and the like, without making any alterations whatever in the construction thereof, and with this general object in view, the invention resides iu the novel features of construction lo be hereinafter fully described and claimed` the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying draw ings which torni a part of this specification and in which:
Figure l a longitudinal section ol one form of the invention showing the same apv plied to the door of a small furnace or water heater;
Fig. 2 is, a transverse section ou the plane ot' the line of Fig. 1;
Fig, 3 is a trout elevation of a range with parts broken away to show the application of the invention thereto; and
Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section on the plane of the line 4-4 of Fig. 3,
In the drawings above briefly described, the numerals 1 and 1 designate a pair of elongated hollow bodies formed of castiron, steel or any other suitable material.. ln fact, these devices could well bc formed of fire clay should occasion demand. The body l is oi' cylindrical shape and is adapted for application upon small furnaces or water heating devices as shown in Fin*I l, whereas dat, heilig of substantially oval shape in transverse scction, this type of the device being intended principally for use in the upper tlues of Bpeolcation of Letters Patent.

serial no. inset;
cook stoves and ranges such as that illustrated in Fig. 3. For applying the device as Shown in Fig. l, a fluid supply pipe 2 will pass through the door 3 With the inner side ot' which the adjacent `end of the body l contacts, the outer end of said pipe being provided with a suitable pipe connection 4 which is threaded into tight contact with the, outer side of the door to hold the device in operative position thereon. The connection l is shown provided plug valve whereby the amount of air passing therethrough may be, readily controlled. lf steam, oil` or the like isto 'le passed through the pipe El into the body l, another type of valve will necessarily be employed, bul since the up ropriatc types are well known to those skilllcd in the art, further explanation and detailed description need not be given.
When the invention is applied as illustrated in Fig. 3, a comparatively long fluid supply pipe 2 leads from the exterlor of the stove or range to the hollow body 1", the outer end of said pipe being provided with a plug valve 5* and with a pet cock 5" as illustrated in the drawings. Both types of the invention employ a substantially semicircular fluid spraying head 6 which. is provided with a tubular perforated neck 7 extending through an opening in one end of the body into the interior of said body. It will be observed that, the neck 7 is of considerably less size than the body 1 or l' with which it cooperates1 said neck therefore serving to choke down the rush of air through the drum. so that the latter serves as an effective means for heating such air, after which heating it is discharged through the neck into the head 6 and is sprayed from the latter through a plurality of fine per4 for-ations 8 therein. The air or other liuid, when discharged in this manner, mixes thoroughly with the flames and hot gases in the stove, furnace or the like, and greatly increases combustion. By so augmenting combustion, the accumulation of soot and carbon is reduced to a minimum and since all of this usually waste material is consumed, less fuel is required to produce the same amount of Work.
Numerous modifications of the invention mav he made Within the scope of the a pended claims, but the essentials remain t e same, that is a hollow drum, a pipe for supplying a fluid to one end of seid drum, and
