Description
Oct. 21 1924. 1,512,275 A. R. CLARK SMOKE CONSUMER Filed March 5, 1924 Patented Qct. 21,1924.
UNITED s SMOKE CONSUMER.
Application filed March 5, 1924-. Serial No. 697,083.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER R. CLARK,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Petoskey, in the county of Emmett and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Smoke Consumer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device especially designed for attachment to stoves, the primary object of the invention being to assist combustion within the stove to consume gases and smoke resulting from the burning of the fuel therein.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily positioned in the usual stove or furnace now in use, eliminating the necessity of making alterations in the construction to install the device.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational View of a stove supplied with an attachment constructed in accordance with the invention, the attachment and upper portion of the stove being shown in vertical section.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing .in detail, the reference character 5 designates the stove which in the present showing is illustrated as a heating stove, but it is to be understood that the device forming the essence of the invention, may be installed as a part of any cooking or heating stove, regardless of its structure. 7
The attachment includes a pipe section 6 which may replace the usual first section of the smoke pipe of a stove and is provided with a lateral opening through which the upper right angled extremity 7 of the pipe diameter of the smoke pipe section 6 so that a passageway is provided between the pipes 6 and 8 to allow products of combustion to pass upwardly therethrough. As shown, a pipe 8 has its lower extremity disposed in spaced relation with the fire-bed so that air entering the pipe 8 may be directed to a point in proximity to the flames caused by the burning coal or material employed for heating the stove.
Air is fed to the pipe 8 through the pipe 10 which has its free end disposed adjacent to the floor of the room or building in which the stove is positioned toinsure cold air being drawn into the stove.
Associated with the pipe 8, and designed to operate adjacent to the free end thereof, 7 is a deflector 11 which is circularin formmation to conform to the shape of the pipe 8 and as shown, is formed with a curved surface to allow the deflector to fit into the end of the pipe 8 and prevent air from entering the fire-box through the pipe.
A chain indicated at 12 has connection with the deflector 11 and extends through due to this construction, cold air is drawn into the fire-box of the stove and discharged at a point within the path of travel of the products of combustion from the fire within the stove, to the end that the smoke and products of combustion become thoroughly mixed with the incoming air to the end that the products of combustion are consumed before they reach the smoke pipe of the stove.
I claim In a device of the character described, a stove having a smoke pipe, a cold air supply pipe extending into the smoke pipe and having its discharge end disposed in spaced relation With the fire-bed Within the stove, a deflector of a diameter greater than the diameter of the cold air pipe and lying in the path of travel of air passing from the discharge end of the cold air pipe and means for regulating the deflector with respect to the discharge end of the pipe.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
' ALEXANDER R. CLARK.
Witnesses:
