Be it known that I, yFREDERICK CARON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of llVayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Brackets, of which the following is aspecification.

This invention has reference to a window fixture designed to support a curtain pole and a shade roller.

An object of the invention is to produce au article of this character which may be easily and quickly attached to the side moliding of a window casing, without the employment of nails, screws 0r analogous devices. and which when so attached, may remain a rigid and permanent fixture.A

A further object of the invention is toz produce a device of this character which will readily adjust itself to various sizes of moldings on window casings, which shall be of a simple construction, readily attached without the aid of tools, cheap to manufacture. and thoroughly eflicient in operation.

lith the foregoing objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts set forth in the following description and falling within the scope of what is claimed.

My improvement contemplates the employment of two angular plates 5 and 6 respectively, the plate 5 being in the nature of a stationary member, while the plate 6 is movable longitudinally of the plate 5.

The plate 5 preferably has the edges of its straight outer portion turned inwardly and over the inner face ot' the said plate providing ways 7 receiving the longitudinal edges of the inner plate 6, and providing guides for the said inner plate. The angular end of the outer plate, indicated for distinction by the numeral S preferably has its outer edges of its sides beaded as at 9, whereby to effectively reinforce the said member Specification of Letters Patent.

Passing through suitable threaded open- .ings in the outer face of the plate 5 are the threaded Shanks of headed members 11, the said' headed members being received in elongated slotsV 12 formed uponi the body portion 13', of a bracket 14, the angular end of the said bracket being provided with a suitable opening to receive the pintle of a shade roller, while formed upon; the outer end' of the plate 5, or the end thereof, opposite the angular element 8 is an koutturned angular bracket 15, the same bei-ng designed to rcceive a pole supporting a window curtain.

The angular end 16 of the plate 6 is of a greatly less length than the angular end 15 of the plate 5, the said end 16 having intur-ned spaced teeth 17. The longitudinal edges of the plate 6, are, for a suitable distance from the ends of the said plate provided with cut away portions so that the central portion ofthe plate is reduced in width and the longitudinal edges thereof are provided with teeth 18.

Pivotally secured in the guide ways 7 of the plate 5, as at 19. are the heads 20 of levers 21, the said heads being each provided with a tooth 22 designed to engage with the teeth 18 on the inner plate 6, when the levers are swung toward the plate 5. The heads of the levers are arranged in suitable openings in the outer edges of the guide ways, as clearly shown by the drawings.

Formed upon the outer edge of the plate 5, or the edge thereof, provided with the bracket 15, are outwardly extending members 23, in the nature of fingers and having their ends inturned as at 24, providing hooks and these hooks are designed to engage with the ends of the levers 21 when the said levers are swung to bring their teeth 22 in locking engagement with the teeth 18.

It is thought, from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing. the simplicity and advantages of ,the construction will be apparent, to those skilled in the art, without further detailed description, it being noted that the plate 6 is moved outwardly of the plate 5 until the angular ends of both the plates 5 and 6 are brought to contacting engagement with the opposite edges of the vertical molding of the window casing, and may, by the hand of the operator, be brought tightly against saidmolding, so that the teeth or spurs 10 and 17 will partly enter the said casing. The levers which are swung outwardly to inoperative position, are nowturned upon their pivots toward the longitudinal edges of the plate 5, which movement, causing the teeth on the heads of theV said levers to engage with the teeth of the inner plate 6, will movey the said inner plate inwardly of the outer plate, forcing the spurs on the angular ends of both of the said plates into the opposite edges of the molding, and as the levers are designed to be engaged by the hooks 24, the plates 5 and 6 are effectively retained in locked position. The bracket 14, through the medium of the slots 12, in theY body thereof, and the co-engagement of the headed members 11 may be adjusted longitudinally over the plate 5, so that shade rollers of different lengths may be thus accommodated.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: l

A shade bracket including two members each having an angular outer end provided with inturned teeth, the outer member havings its longitudinal edges turned over its back to provide ways receiving the inner member, said outer member, approximately central of its longitudinal edges having slots communicating with the ways, and having its end opposite its angular end provided with oppositely extending hooks, the beaks of which being inturned, the inner member being centrally depressed from its longitudinal edges and the longitudinal edges provided by the said depressed portions being toothed, a lever having an offset head arranged in each of the slots and pivotally secured to the outer plate, each of said heads having a tooth designed to engage with the teeth on the reduced portion of the inner member, and said levers designed to be engaged by the referred to hooks to hold the teeth thereof in engagement with the teeth of the inner member.
