Description

H. -L. WALKER. PATTERN VIBHATOR FOR MOLDERS.

IATTERN-VIBRATOR FOR MOLDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1918.
Application filed December 31, 1917. Serial No. 209,787.
'1 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IUGI-I L. WALKER, a subject of His Majesty King George V of Great Britain, residing at the city of Guelph, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented a certain new or Improved Pattern-Vibrator for Molders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an eflicient, cheap and simple vibrator for shaking a molding pattern so as to free it from any adhering particles of sand before lifting the pattern from the mold.
I attain this result by means of the apparatus illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure I is a front view of one form of my new or improved pattern vibrator containing all the essentialfeatures of my invention.
Fig. II is another form of same with partially inclosed controlling springs.
Fig. III is a top view of Fig. II showing the partially inclosed controlling springs in operating position.
Fig. IV is a rear view of the ratchet wheel arrangement shown in Fig. I.
Fig. V is a similar view of the ratchet wheel arrangement in Fig. II, while Fig. VI is a side view of the apparatus illustrated in Fig. I.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts in all the drawings.
My invention consists essentially of the central stem A, the upper part of which (a) forms a handle for holding the apparatus in position, and the lower end of which (a) is tapered so as to fit into the gate hole in the pattern which it is shaking; and one or more vibrating arms B. B. hinged at the top on opposite sides of the central stem A, and controlled by spiral springs (c) said vibrating arms B. B. being operated by means of staggered ratchet wheels C O mounted on the back and front respectively of the central stem A and operated by means of the crank arm I), said ratchet wheels bearing against projections (b) (6') mounted on the vibrator arms B. B. or working in recesses (0) as shown in Figs. I and IV.
The bridge or link E attached to the central stem A serves to guide the vibrator arms B. B. and also to carry the controlling springs (c).
As will readily be seen the revolution of the ratchet wheels C Cf by means of the crank handle 'D, will alternately press out the vibrator arms B. B. thus compressing the controlling springs (e), and when the teeth of the ratchet wheels have passed the projections (Z1) (6) the vibrator arms B.B.wil1 be forcibly driven in by means of the controlling springs (6) and striking the central stem A, forcible blows alternately on either side, will serve to vibrate the same, and consequently the pattern into which the tapered lower end of the stem ((1') fits.
I claim:
1. A pattern vibrator for molders, com prising in combination a central stem formed into a handle at its upper end and tapered to a point at its lower end, provided with one or more hinged vibrator arms, ratchet Wheels for operating same; said vibrator arms being adapted to forcibly strike the central stem thus vibrating the same and consequently the pattern into which it is inserted, substantially as hereinbefore described.
2. In combination with the central stem and hinged vibrator arms of a pattern vibrator; one or more ratchet wheels operated by means of a crank handle the teeth of said ratchet wheels being adapted to alternately press out and release said vibrator arms, substantially as hereinbefore described.
3. In combination with a pattern vibrator composed of a central stem and one or more vibrator arms, ratchet wheels for operating same, said ratchet wheels being mounted on the central stem of the vibrator; spiral springs bearing on and forcibly compressing the vibrator arms for the purpose of driving them forcibly against the central stem of the vibrator when released by the passing of the teeth of the said ratchet wheels, substantially as hereinbefore dmcribed.
HUGH L. WALKER.
