When my improved priedieus are ar ranged in the manner oi pews, that is to say, one in front oi the other, each forward priedieu has its support 16 pulled outward, as shown at the left of Fig. at, so that the worshiper will use the seat 8 of the rear priedeau, and when kneeling the support 16 of the priedieu immediately in front of the one used for seating purposes.

The side members 1 and 2 have the general shape of the end of an ordinary pew, as clearly illustrated in the drawing, and will be of any desired ornamental configuration.

The device as a whole may be manufactured at relatively small cost, and will be found exceedingly useful in small audito riuins, such as the chapels of cemeteries, or in temporary quarters used -for worship, and where it is not desirable to install permanent seats.

I claim:

1. A priedieu having connected kneelingsupports slidably mounted therein and movable into position iior use, respectively, at either side of the device, and a seat pivotally mounted therein above said supports.

2. A priedieu comprising side members, each of which is provided on its inner side with guide bars, a support slidably mounted at opposite ends between said guide bars, legs secured to said support, and a seat pivotally mounted in said priedieu above said support.

3. in a priedieu, in combination with side members ha ing mounted thereon a kneeling-support, a seat pivotally mounted between said side members above said kneeling-support, a cleat secured on the inner side of each side member at the forward edge and affording supports on its upper and rear side, a cross-bar connecting" said side members and positioned to engage the upper side of the rear end portion oi the seat when the latter is turned downward into contact naearoe with said cleats, and a brace-bar extending between the side members and adapted to be engaged by the outer edge of the seat at the same time that the under side or its rear edge portion engages the rear side of said cleats in the turned-up position of said seat.

whereby said seat when in said folded position leaves an unobstructed kneeling space. on the same side of the priedieu as said seat. 5. in a priedieu, the combination of an elevated rest, a seat adjustable outwardly from the priedieu, means for supporting said seat in a substantially horizontal position, said priedieu having a kneeling sup port mounted to move toward and from opposite sides of the prie-dieu, said kneeling support having a part located toward the side of the priedieu remote from the seatto be knelt upon when the seat is in its horizontal position, said kneeling support having another part toward the same side of the priedieu as the seat to be knelt upon when the seat is in its folded position. i

6. in a priedieu, the combination of an elevated rest, a seat adjustable outwardly from the priedieu, means for supporting said seat in a substantially horizontal position, said priedieu having a kneeling support mounted to slide in a substantially horizontal direction near the door, said kneeling support having a part located toward the side of the priedieu remote from the seat to be knelt upon when the seat is in its horizontal position, said kneeling support having another part toward the same side of the priedieu'as the seat, to be knelt upon when the seat is in its folded position.

7. in a priedieu, the combination oi a fixed elevated hand-rest, a seat adjustable outwardly on one side of the priedieu, knee supporting means including a slide constructed to form a knee support on the same side of the priedieu as said seat and adjust-' able outwardly to form a knee support at the opposite side of the priedieu, to support a person kneeling at the priedieu on the side opposite to the seat, means for supporting said seat in its outwardly adjusted position and in a folded position, said priedieu being unobstructed adjacent said kneeling support on the same side as said seat whereby said seat when in said folded position leaves an unobstructed kneeling space on the same side of the priedieu as said seat.

8. In a priedieu, the combination of side members, an elevated rest, a seat adjustable outwardly at one side of said priedieu, relatively fixed means carried by said side members for holding said seat in a substantially horizontal position and in a folded position, and kneeling supporting means adjustable outwardly on the side of the priedieu opposite the seat to be used When the seat is not in its horizontal position, and including a part adjustable outwardly on the same side of the priedieu with said seat to be knelt upon when the seat is in its folded position.
