To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. DOLYAK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molds, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to molds, and has for its primary object to provide a mold for producing building blocks of cementitious or plastic materials which is of such construc tion that the various parts thereof can be easily and quickly set up in operative position, or disassembled for the removal of the molded block.
It is a more particular object of the invention to provide a block mold having two body sections each including a longitudinal wall and an end wall, the walls of said sections when assembled having interfitting engagement at their ends, and means for eifectively clamping the walls of the mold and holding the same against relative movement from their assembled positions by the pressure of material poured into the mold.
And it is a further general object of my' invention to provide a block mold as above characterized, the several parts of which are of very simple form so that the mold as a -whole can be produced at relatively small manufacturing cost.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the improved combination, construction and arrangement of the several parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein.

Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates two sections of the mold which are of similar construction and each of which includes a longitudinal side wall 6 and an end wall 7 the mold sections being substantially Lshaped in plan. Upon the outer face of the walls 6 and 7 of each mold section a longitudinally extending rib designated 8 and 9 respectlvely is formed. These ribs are integral with, each other at the corner of the mold section but terminate in spaced relat1on to the opposite ends of the mold walls. The ends of the mold walls are rabbeted on their inner faces, as at 10, whereby tongues and grooves are provided for interfitting engagement when the two sections of the mold are set up or assembled, as seen in Fig. 1.
l1 designates a base plate which is provided upon one face with a continuous flange or rib 12 in spaced relation to the marginal edges of the plate to support the base plate above the ground or floor surface. Upon this base plate, the body sections of the mold are assembled. Clamping bars generally designated by the numeral 13 are then applied to the exterior of the mold walls adjacent their upper and lower edges. Each of these clamping bars is of the form shown in Fig. 4 and includes the part 14: to extend along the longitudinal wall of one mold section and the angularly extending part 15 which is disposed across the end wall of the mold section. Each of these parts 14. and 15 of the clamping bar terminates in an angularly disposed arm indicated at 16, and these arms are adapted to engage over the ends of the longitudinal and end walls of the other mold section, as will be readily understood from reference to Fig. l of the drawing. At the rabbeted interfitting ends of the mold walls, wedge elements, shown at 17 are driven downwardly between the inner edges of the clamping bar and the side and end walls of the two mold sections, whereby the latter are tightly clamped together at their abutting ends and separation of the same resulting in leakage of the plastic material poured into the mold is thereby obviated.
In addition to the bars 13, clamping elements 18 are provided each of which consists of a relatively short rod or bar having lugs 19 on its ends projecting at right angles to the bar and in parallel relation to each other. These clamping elements are of requisite length so that their lugs may be engaged under the marginal edges of the base plate 11 and over the ribs 8 and 9 formed upon the walls of the mold sections. Additional webs shown at 20 are then driven horizontally between the lugs 19 on the upper ends of the clamping members and the ribs 8 and 9, whereby the walls of the mold; sections are tightly clamped and held against shifting movement upon the base plate 13.
i g set p e. mo d and securely clamped its walls together in the manner above explained, the plastic material from which the block is to be formed is then poured into the space bounded by the mold walls. It will be manifest that this space can be of any desired dimensions and the inner faces of the mold walls may be roughened, corrugated or otherwise fashioned to produce a block of ornamental form. Preferably, I provide a top or cover 21 for the mold which is placed uponjthe upper edges of the mold walls after the plastic material has been poured. This cover is of the same construction as the base plate 11 and is also pr ided with. a Continuous flange 0r rib 22 n spaced. relation to its marginal edges. Bails or handle members indicated at 23 may be suitably secured to this flange at the opposite ends of. the cover plate whereby i can'be onveniently arranged in place upon the mold walls or removed therefrom.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, manner of use, and several advantages of my improved mold, will be clearly and fully understood. The various parts are of exceedingly simple form, as well as strong and durable. The mold as a, whole may be manufactured at relatively small cost and is achnirably adapted for use in the production of, blocks, formed from ceme t or other plast c. material such as are generally used for building. purposes. In the foregoing descriptioml have referred to a preferred Construction of the. clamping members as well as the mold walls, but it W ll be understood that in, practice these details of, the device may be considerably varied in their form and proportion as particular conditions or circumstances may require. Accordingly, I reserve the privilege. of. a pt ng all such legitimate changes of which the device may be susceptible as. may be, fairly embraced within the spirit and scope oi the invention as claimed.
