neously thumb Beit.,known thatI, ALPHONSE M. Rum, and resident of'St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Clasps, of which the followingisiaspecifi cation.

This invention relates to improvements in a collar-clasp,r and has for its object a plain or ornamental bar suitably curved to conform with the contour of the neck,'the said bar being provided with a pair of spring actuated clamping members which engage with the collar and support the ends or wings of a soft collar.

A further'object of my invention is to construct a clasp to be used in connection with soft collars in order to keep the win s intact, and the clasp being so constructed that the fastening members may be simultaoperated by the pressure of p the for applying or removing the same.

A further ob ect'of my invention is to constructa clasp being rovided with clamping members by which tlie clasp is held-in position as well as for the purpose of holding down the ends or wings of a soft-collar, the said device being so arranged as to provide a firm hold but yet permitthe wings to be properly adjusted and when once adjusted prevent the same from becoming displaced, and furthermore the clamp is so arranged as not'to mar or lacerate the outer surface of the collar.

In carrying out my invention I provide a collar or garment clasp consisting of a bar 8, this bar may be constructed of any width and length as desired, its outer surface or face 9 being plain or ornamental as found desirable so as to give a neat and unique efieetr This bar is suitably bent as shown 'to correspond as nearly as possible to the curvature ofthe neck and so as to properly conform with the collar.

On the inner surface of the bar' I provide a pair .of clampingmembels which consist of an arm 10 provided with a pair of ears 11, which fit overa similar pair of ears 12, projecting from the inner surface of. the bar 8. Through these ears is laced a pivot pin 13 and around the pin is pl 14, its ends projecting outwardly, one end 15 in contact with the undersurface of the bar, the other end 16, contacting with the handle 17 radiating from the armlO. These ears re erred to are preferably stamped of the same material and bent forming a yoke, and the same are of such size as to virtually conceal the spring located between the same.

But when once the collar is adjusted in its proper position the teeth will embed themselves into the mate rial of which the collar is formed. by means of the angular position, to prevent the collarfrom being pulled out except when desiring to remove the clasp which is shown in the manner'as that illustrated in Fig. 6.

The. teeth are sb'shaped as to pass on the sides of the bar and when the clasp is in its normal osition and' not applied on the col lar, theo ter teeth will pro ect slightly above the outer surface of the bar assuming a position as that shown in Fig. 1. j It has been found that where soft collars are used such collars are provided with button holes through which buttons are attached to the flexible member or the like and by means of such attachments the collar becomes unsightly and unpopular and collar soon becomes useless when the button-holes become worm By my invention the device is unique and is preferably operative by placing the device between the finger and the thumb, the thumb pressure being exerted against the handles of the clamping members thereby opening the jaws in the position as shown in Fig. 6. The

device maythen be placed over the wings of the collar and then when so placed the wings of the collaracan be properly adjusted by pulling the same toward the center and when once so adjusted the teeth which embed themselves into the collar will be prevented from becoming detached or shifted unless the clasp is manipulated in a similar manner, by themanipulation of the thumb against the handles.

outer surface of the teeth being suitably curved to allow for the adjustment of the collar and arranged to straddle the bar and means for holding the clamps in conl act with the collar, substantially as specified.

A collar or garment clasp comprising a narrow bar, the same being suliicienllv bent to conform with the contour oi the col lar, a pair of toothed clamping members attached to the bar and held in contact therewith by spring action, the teeth formed on the clamping members arranged to straddle the bar, said teeth being slightly inclined so as to permit the bar to be adjusted in position on the collar fia but bite into the 11mterial when the same is being pulled upon e art of the clamping members and pro ect1ng at an angle and cept when released by'the thumb pressure.
