Description

. A. CAMP.
Improvement in Soap-Holders.
Patented May 7,1872.
am we J 5 s c m P s 5 M n M Y M w m H M R w m m H P M A UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB A. CAMP, OF SANDUSKY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOAP-HOLDERS.
Specification describing a new Soap-Holder, invented by J AGOB A. CAMP, of Saudusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio.
The invention will first be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claims.
The drawing is a perspective View.
A represents the body, and B the cover of box, which are both formed of foraminous or reticulated metal. C is a wire, doubled over from points a 0, to form two prongs, c c, then bent at rightangles from the two points 0 c and finally carried around the body, and bent in front thereof until they meet. These two ends are then confined in any suitable and well-known manner to the body. To the top B are attached two wires, D D, which are provided with eyes at d, which encircle the wire C, and are allowed to turn thereon. The wires D D are bent downward at d 01, so that any pressure from beneath will have the efiect of raising the cover. E is a yoke having a loop, 6, at each end, in each of which is placed one of the wires of body and one of cover. As the wires that connect with body are rigidly attached, whilethe wires D D are loosely hinged thereto, when the yoke is moved down toward the end of handle it strikes the bends d d, and elevates the cover. On the other hand,
when the yoke is moved up toward the body the cover is clamped firmly on the top thereof. Being thus closed, with the soap on the inside, the box is dipped in the Water and shaken until the requisite lather is obtained. It is then lifted out and placed upon the washstand.
Every one is familiar with the fact that in handling wetted soap it slips from the hand, flies where it is not wanted to go, and creates considerable annoyance. Also, it is constantly liable to fall, or be laid upon the furniture, so as to make unseemly spots. These objections, now attending the manipulation of soap, are entirely obviated by my device.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
.l. The soap-holder, formed of foraminous or reticulated metal, and provided with a suitable handle, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the body-wire C, of the cover-wires D D, bent downward at d d, and the yoke E, having loop e at each end, as and for the purpose described.
