Description

CEALY BILLUPS.
Improvement in Cultivators.
N0.12,5l3 Patented May 7,1872.
Wig. 2.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEETCE.
OEALY BILLUPS, OF NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CU LTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,513, dated May 7', 1872.
Specification describing an Improvement in Oultivator-Plows, invented by OEALY BILL- UPS, of Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia.
The invention relates particularly to the mode of fastening wings to the shoe, and will first be described in connection With all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then clearly pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 is a cross-section. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a top view.
A represents the land-side or shoe of a cultivator-plovv, having the vertical slot a and corrugations or ratchets a2 a2. B B are separate Wings, which may differ in their shape or size, and which are provided with shanks b b, having ratchets b b corresponding to those a2 a2 of the shoe. These Shanks, at their front ends, fit vertical grooves a4 af* of the shoe. G is a bolt, and c a nut, which, together, clamp the Wings to the shoe. By Withdrawin g the nut c the shanks may be moved laterally until clear of ratchets a2 of shoe, and then transferred to a higher or lower point thereon. The slot a is preferably used by me, although it is evident that perforations in either the Shanks of the Wings or the shoe, or in both, will answer the saine purpose in the adjustment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The shoe A, provided with vertical slot a in rear of the mold-board, combined with the Wings B, made in one or two pieces, so that they may be adjusted in the manner described.
2. The shoe A, having slot a, or its equivalent, and side ratchets a2 a2, in combination with separate Wings B B ratcheted on the insides of their shanks, as and for the purpose described.
3. The shoe A, having grooves (r4d4, in coinbination with separate wings, having shanks b b, that lit them, as and for the purpose set forth.
CEALY BILLUPS.
