To all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that I, Gnovnn MARoUs SHU- MAKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Finger-Cots, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in finger cots, and has for its-object to provide a device of the character specified, adapted for connection with a rubber glove in place of a removed finger or thumb, wherein the stall is provided with a connecting ring of sufficient size to prevent pressure on the finger, and heavy enough to hold its shape when, in use to prevent undue pressure on the finger or thumb.

In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 1, a connecting ring 1 is provided, sufficiently heavy to hold its shape when in place and of a size enough larger than the thumb or finger upon which the cot is to be used to prevent undue pressure, and this ring is provided on its outer surface with a plurality of annular grooves 2, forming a rib 3 between the grooves. The cot 4, which is of any suitable material, is provided at its open end with a pair of internal annular ribs 5, The cot is adapted to fit over the ring in the manner shown in Fig. 2, with the ribs 5 engaging the grooves 2, and with the rib 3 engag ing the groove 6. The grooves 2 are near the middle of the ring, and it will be evident that when the cot is engaged with the ring there will be a portion of the ring extending beyond the top which may enter within the finger of the glove, indicated at 7 This cot is adapted for connection with an ordinary rubber glove, the finger or thumb being out off and the ring is inserted in the portion of the finger or thumb remaining on the glove. The glove may be secured to the ring by a suitable cement, and the ring is enough larger than. the glove finger so that there will be a tight fit at this point. factured, only requiring the application of gasolene or other substance forholding'the same in place, that is, the cement may be similar to that used on gasolene patches for inner tubes. The device may, however, be manufactured without cement, the same being applied at the time of fastening the cot to the glove.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the connecting ring is a portion of the cot, and is not separate as in the embodiment just described. In Fig. 5 the cot 8 has an extension 9 at its open end, of slightly less external sizethan the cot, but somewhat larger than the finger or thumb, and sufiiciently heavy to prevent undue pressure.
An annular shoulder 10 is formed between the extension and the body of the cot, and is annularly ribbed at this point, as shown at 11, the rib being, in fact, an extension of the shoulder. The extension is inserted within the cut off finger of the glove 12, and the glove may be cemented to the extension, the cement being arranged between the extension and the glove.
In Fig. 6 the cot 18 has an extension 19 and an annular rib 20. The cot is provided with another extension 21 which is inside the extension 19 and spaced apart therefrom, to receive the cut off finger of the glove 22 between the extension mentioned and the extension 19. The glove is cemented to the extensions and the cement may be applied at the factory as above described, or when the cot is attached to the glove. The fact that the cut oil finger of the glove is stretched at the connection with the cot or stall permits easy'removal of the glove over the injured thumb or finger.
I claim: r
1. A finger cot having at its open end an extension adapted to enter within the cut off finger or thumb of a glove, said extension being of greater diameter than the finger of the glove and the finger or thumb of the user, and being semi-rigid to hold the glove extended.
2. A finger cot having at its open end a semi-rigid extension adapted to engage the out off finger of a glove and of greater diameter than the finger of the glove to stretch the same, said cot having an annular rib or shoulder at the inner end of the extension for engagement by the cut off end of the glove.
3. A finger cot having at its open end,
spaced internal annular ribs, and a connecting ring of semi-rigid material having intermediate its ends external annular grooves for engagement by the ribs.
4. A finger cot having at its open end spaced annular ribs, and a connecting ring of semi-rigid material having intermediate its ends annular grooves for engagement by the ribs.
5. A finger cot having at its open end a 10 cement to permit the cot to be permanently 15 secured to the glove.
