To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IERMANV W. ZIEMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St.
Bonifacius, inthc county of Hennepin,
kind whereby force,-convenience, utilization of power, and ease of manipulation in bow facing cars are attained.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bracket plate to be secured on the upper edge of the side of the boat and provided with upstanding bearings in which a tilting member is mounted, and on which tilting member the rowing gear is pivotally mounted, whereby the upstanding bearing will act as limiting stops for the paddle section and the handle section of the rowing ear.
6 A further object of the invention is to provide a rowing gear comprising a paddle section and a handle section, which are pivotally mounted upon a tilting member, in combination with a link connection between the two sections, thereby creating greater force of power and ease of manipulation in In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved rowing gear as applied to the upper edge of the side of a boat.

Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates a portion of one of the sides of a boat, and 2 denotes a bracket plate which is secured by screws 3 on the upper edge of the side. The bracket plate is bent at several different points as shown at 4, 5 and 6, thereby forming upstanding loop bearings 7 and 8 designates an elongated rocking or tilting plate, the ends of. which are providedwith pintles 9 mounted in the adjacent walls of said upstanding bearings.

The tilting plate 8 is provided with a pair of edgewisebulges 10 and 11, and rising upwardly. from the upper faces of said bulged portions 10 and l I 11 0f the tilting plate are pivot pins 12 and l 13, which, owlng to the construction of said bulges 10 and 11, are offset upon opposite sidesof the axial alinelnentof the pintles 9, whereby the tilting member or plate may more readily tilt, when manipue lating the rowing gear. The oar rowing v gear comprises the paddle section 14 and the handle section 15, which is manually manipula'tedl The inner end of the paddle section has a rectangular portion 16, which fits andis secured in a socket 17 rectangular in cross section formed by the opposite plateslS, which are secured to the opposite faces ofthe rectangular end of the paddle section by the bolts or rivets 19. A rivet or the like 20 also secures the rectangular end portion 16 of the paddle section in said socket 17. The upper and lower walls of the socket and the rectangular portion of the paddle section of the rowing gear have registering openings 21, to receive the pivot pin 13. The inner adjacent ends of said plates 18 are provided with laterally extending lugs 22, which are connected by a pin 23. The handle section 15 of the rowing gear has a handle portion 2 1 and a rectangular end 25, to which a socket 26 is fitted and secured by means of a pivot in 27. A pair of plates 28 project outwardly from the outer ends of the upper and lower walls of the socket 26, and these plates have laterally extending lugs 29. The plates 28 are secured by a rivet 30 to the upper and lower faces of the outer end of the rectangular portion 25 of the handle section 15, thereby rendering the parts secure. The socket 26 has its upper and lower walls and the rectangular portion 25 of the handle section provided with registering openings 31, to receive the pivot pin 12. By the foregoing structure it is to be noted that the paddle and handle sections 14: and 15 of the rowing gear are pivotally mounted upon the tilting plate or member 8, so that when the handle section is manipulated up and down and oscillated forwardly and rearwardly, an up and down movement is imparted to the paddle section, time is also a site to the forward and aearoscillation- 0f oscillated forwardly and rearwardly oppothe handle section, through the medium of the link 32.
