' To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK MATSON,

a citizen of the United States, residing at r on the j acl Dalbo, in the county of, Isantiand State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Auto-Jacks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in lifting acks andthe' principal object of the invention is to provide improved means for lifting the wheels of :u'ltomobiles and the like.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide means for engagingthe part to be lifted atseveral points so as to balance the same A further object of the invention is to provide a base part having a screw threaded opening for receiving-the screw threaded shank whereby the parts may be raised and lowered.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, which is s1mple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out'in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying In these figures 1 indicates the base of the 7 jack provided with the long screw threaded socket 2 which is adapted to receive the screw threaded shank 3. When the jack is to be used it is so placed that both of the arms 8 engage with the automobile so as to balance the same on the jack, and then by turning the handle 5 the screw threaded shank will be caused'to move vertically by the threads thereof engaging the threads of the socket.

The jack is particularly adapted to raise automobiles so that their tires are raised on the floor of the garage, to relieve said tires of the weight of the automobile, and due to the arrangement of the arms 8 a pair of jacks will be sufficient, one under each end of the automobile, as said arms of one jack will balance one end of the automobile.

It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my invention willbe readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make slight changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

I claim as my invention:

A lifting jack comprising a threaded shank, a base supporting said shank, means for retaining the shank, a head detachably carried by said shank and provided with upwardly and outwardly extending arms, and each of said arms provided with a transverse depression in the outer end thereof for engagement with the springs of the vehicle.
