APPLICATION FILED MAR. 1. 1911..

SHORE.
meager.
To all whom it may concern. I
Be it known that I, Rrcrmrn BLANKEN-.
sure, a citizen of the United States residing at Washington, in the District of (lolumbia,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shores, of which the following is aspecification.
My inventionrelates to improvements in shores for concrete construction work and the objects thereof are to provide a device of this character which is adjustable in the direction of itslength, as well as in a plane at right angles to its axial center; to provide nove means for clamping the work; and to provide means for preventing clogging of the clamping means. v
To the accomplishment of the recited. objects, and others subordinate thereto, the preferred embodiment of my invention resldes in that constructionand arrangement hereinafter described, illustrated in the accom panying drawings, and embraced w thin the sco e of the appended claims. a
id drawings: 1
Fre 1 is a longitudinal'sectional elevationdofthe shore, in position supporting a mo] Referring specifically to thedra'wings', 1- designates a tubular member with a swiveled base 2, and a rigidly carried boss 3 at its I vided for the reception of any convenientv upper end engageable with the screw 4. At a point adjacent the base an opening 5 is retool, by means of which the tubular element may be rotated'to cause the screw tobe vahll true vertical plane. After the shore has thus' ried or lowered. The upper end ofthe'screw is bifurcated to form a yoked which is se-' cured to the bolt 7 passing transversely through the follower 8. In this manner the t9 the mold when it is impossible or'impractrcalble to position the tubular element in a been initially ositioned, it becomes necessary to maintain the follower in place. In the present. instance, the a Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the fol-' which Ive devised to accomplish the stated comprises a flat sector 9- with its ends 10 in the form of a yoke ri 'dly fixed to opposite extremities of the fol ower. by bolts 11; the sector passing through a slot 12 in the upper end of screw, and being engageable by the set-screw 13 to hold the follower in any desired set position.
The follower per se consists of a pair of identical blocks 14; and 15, suitably spaced at opposite extremities by the sleeves 16 of the bolts 11. A shaft 17 is disposed in this space, and rotatably supported "by the bush mg 18. Equal portions of the shaft upon. opposite sides of the bushing arereversely nated at 1 9 while'the left-hand threads are shown at'20. Upon each set of threads is a purpose,

threaded, right-hand threads being 'desig taneously move toward or away from the j work.
' An important advantage in connection with the construction of the follower as just described, is that the space between the blocks It and 15 not only accommodates the shaft 17 but serves mold, and which would otherwise have a tendency to clog the threads of the shaft, If desired, a. ring, as 23, with a lateral as an outlet for any small partlcles of concrete which leak from the angular extension 24:, may be mounted-upon the tubular member 1, and serve. as a su port for scafiolding, as 25the adjustability of the rin being secured by the appropriate manipu ation of the set-screw 26. I
- Thepresent practice with regard to aim crete construction work is to employ shores which are made very crudely of wood and of dimensions exactly suitable to the work at hand. It follows that when the particular construction work requires'shores of slightly difl'erent dimensions, the original shores had to be altered to suit the new conditions. Such alterations require considerable time and are expensive,v Furthermore, wood is not durable, and whether or not the shores have to be ehangedfrom time to time, they necessarily have to be repaired, and frequently discardeoh This constitutes anether item of expense."
My improved type" of shore is designed I to be practically indestructible and will last 1:! ill! llll lll I IS H113 only cost. It may be adjusted to any reasonable degree in a vertical plane, and by reason of the swiveled base and the pivotal follower, it may be positioned over a well hole, shaft, or the like. The clamp which constitutes a component art of the follower mbraces the mold t1ghtlyand entirely eliminates the use of nails. Still further, the com lete shore is compact and comparative y light, and may be easily and quickly transported from place to place.
What is claimed, is
1. A. shore-comprising a base, a tubular member adjustably mounted thereon, a screw extensibly carried by said tubular =member, a yoke formed on said screw, a
pivot bolt carried by said yoke, a follower carried by said pivot bolt, comprising supporting blocks and adjustable clamps, and a-sector carried by said follower having adjustably locked engagement with said screw.
2. A shore comprising a base, a tubular member movably carried thereby, a screw extensibly carried by said tubular member, a yoke formed on said screw, a pivot bolt carried by said yoke, a follower pivotally carried by said pivot bolt, said follower comprising spaced supporting blocks, clamps, slidably carried by said supporting block, a screw rotatably carried by said supporting block for actuating said clamps, a sector carried by said follower having engagement with first mentioned screw, and locking means carried by first mentioned screw to establish a fixed relationship between said first. mentioned screw and said follower.
3. A shore comprising a base, having a socket formed therein, a tubular member having a rounded lower end movably carried by said base, an internally threaded boss, carried by said sleeve, a screw extensibly carried by said boss, a yoke formed on the outer end of said screw, a pivot bolt carried by said yoke, a follower pivotally mounted on said pivot bolt,'said follower comprising base supporting blocks, having guides formed thereon, clamps slidable on said supporting blocks, an operating screw for said clamps carried by said follower and means for retaining a fixed relationship between said follower and said first mentioned screw.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
RICHARD BLANKENSIHP.
