Be it 'known that I, HENRY W. GATLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful improvements in Curtain-Stretchers, of which the following `is a specification. Y

|This invention relates to improvements in curtain stretchers and has for its chief characteristic to provide a device of this character having collapsible and movable stretching elements, the means for moving theelements being of novel construction to insure the thorough stretchingof the curtains.

Another charactertistic of this invention resides in the provision of a device of the above described character which may be readily collapsed to facilitate the storing or transporting of the same.

Another characteristic of this invention resides in the providing of a curtain stretcher which contains the desirable features of sims plicity, durability and efficiency and fur* thermore a device which may be manufactured at anominal cost.

Other objects of the invent-ion will appear as the specification is read in-connection with the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device constructed in accordance with my inventionu Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device;

Referring to the drawings in detail, my invention comprises a substantially rectangular frame which is composed of the side bars A and the end bars B, the under side of the end bars being provided with a coeXtensive bracket 1 which is adapted to slidably receive the side bars A, thereby permitting the bars to be adjusted with relation to each other. The bars A and B are each provided upon their inner faces with the substantially hshaped hooks 2, the hooks serving to detachably support the curtain upon the frame as will be understood.

hingedly connected to each other as at 5, the hinges being so arranged upon the sections as to permit the sections to be swung toward each otherto allow the folding of the same. Each of the hinges 5 is mounted with upstanding ears 6 while spanning the space between the side bars A and having the opposite ends thereof loosely mounted within the ears 6 is a cross rod 7 z "Fo adjust the end bars VB toward or away from each `other in stretching a curtain, I provide one of the end bars atits medial portion and upon the underside thereof with a threaded annular collarv 8 through which extends a threaded shank 9, the shank eX- tending longitudinally of the frame and in parallel relation with the side bars A, The shank has its outer end formed with a handle 10 to Vfacilitate the manipulation thereof while its inner end terminates at a point adjacent the cross rod 7 and is formed with the head `11. rFhe head has hingedly secured'thereto one end of the rods12, the rods being arranged in diverging relation to each other and having their free ends Secured to the inner face of the adjacent end bar B. The cross rod 7 is adapted to support the rods 12 0f the shank 9 in horizontal position but when the stretcher is collapsed, the cross rod may be removed to permit the collapsing of the rods 1'2 as will be understood. 1t will be evident from the foregoing description that upon rotating the shank 9 in the collar 8, the diverging rods 12 will be actuated to move the end bar or bars toward or away from each other to stretch the curtain as will be understood. Obviously, the manner of connecting the rods to the head not only permits of the adjustment of the end bars in either direction, but further affords of the adjustment of the end bars toward or away from each other.

Certain of the end bars B are provided upon their outer side faces with spaced guide members 13 in which are loosely mounted the threaded bars 14, the bars having one end thereof extending through threaded collars 15 formed on the side bars A. Une end of the bars 111 is provided with a handle 16 while the opposite or inner end is provided with an enlarged oiiset head 17, the head being adapted to engage the remaining side bar to permit the relative adjustment of the side har as will be understood. 1t will be manifest from the forego that the npr. saliera.

When it is desired to collapse the stretcher to facilitate thetransporting of the same, it will be evident that by removing the cross rod 7 the sections 3 and t will then be ree to be swung toward each other as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing. It will thus be seen that the frame assumes a compact :form whereby the same may be readily transport- -ed or stored.

A curtain stretcher ycomprising end bars and hinged side bars, brackets carriedv by the end bars and slidably receiving the side bars, hooks formed on each'oi' the bars, a threaded rod carried by one oi' the end bars, rods hingedly connected to the threaded rod and to the remaining end bar, and means carried by one of the side bars for effecting an adjustment of the remaining side bar.

A curtain stretcher comprising side bars of hinged sections7 end bars, brackets carried by the end bars and slidably receiv-w ing the side bars, L-shaped hooks formed on all of the bars, a cross rod detachably car# ried by said side bars, a threaded rod carried by one of the end bars, rods hingedly connected to the threaded rod and to the remaining end bar, said cross rod engaging the threaded rod to support the same in horizontal position and rods threadedly mounted within one of the side bars and engageable with the remaining bar to eiiect a relative adjustment of the bars. 4. A curtain stretcher comprising end bars and hinged side bars, a threaded rod carried by one of the end bars, rods hingedly connected to the threaded rod and to the remaining end bar, means carried by one of the side bars for effecting the adjustment of the remaining side bar, and means detachably engaging with the side bars for supporting the hingedly comiected rods in a horizontal position.
