To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. Born, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Hayden, in the, county of Gila and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and use.- ful Improvements in Smoke-Purifiers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in smoke purifiers, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character through which the smoke is forced to purify the same, and remove therefrom the solid products of combustion, which are adapted to be used for various purposes, and which were heretofore carried off by the waste gases.
This invention particularly relates to a novel apparatus for purifying smoke which comprises a .novel arrangement for forcing.
smoke through a body of water and agltating the body of water to break up and destroy the globules of smoke and gases passing therethrough to insure the separation of the minute solid particles or products of combustion from the globules formed of and secure the precipitation of the solid particles in the body ofwater and prevent their escape with the gaseous products. The apparatus is furthermore provided with means for withdrawing the precipitationof these solid particles, so that they adapted to. be used for various purposes as desired. A further object of the invention is to provide smoke purifying apparatus of this character which includes a liquid containing portion having the purifying apparatus contained therein, and means for maintaining a predetermined liquid level in said portion during the operation of the apparatus. Still another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character that includes a liquid container provided with means for precipitating the solid products of combustion in the bottom thereof as the smoke passes thercthrough, and an overflow whereby the said products are carried from the container to any desired place.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very efficient In operation. TJith these and numerous other objects in view my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arshown in section;

By this means the smoke will be purified, and all the solid and valuable products will be precipitated in the bottom of the chamber 1.
The overflow attachment to the chamber 1, will carry the solid products of combustion through the outlet, and hence in a manner hereinbciore fully described the same will be carried to a basin, which receives the same, and iencc they may be transported to any desired place. The various parts used in this apparatus are formed of suitable material, sot-hat they will not corrode or under the action of the gases that pass therethrough.
The operation of this type of smoke purifier will obviate the smoke nuisance, and enables bituminous coals to be used invarious kinds of furnaces, for instance smelting fur- :bed. The by-pass "I alnaces, in municipalities where anti-smoke laws are in force, The purifying apparatus also retrieves the valuable solid products of combustion that were heretofore carried off by the gaseous products and wasted.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and the method of operation will be readily'apparout to those skilled in the art towhich the invention appertains, and while I have de' scribed the principle of operation of the in vention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shownvis merely illustrative, and. that such changes may be made when desired as are within the sco e of the claims appended hereto. c
Having 'fully' described my, invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a smoke purifier the combination with a liquid containing chamber, a smoke duct terminating adjacent the bottom thereof, means for forcing smoke through said duct, an outlet in the top of said chamber,
of, means for forcing smoke through said duct, agitators and babies in said chamber adjacent the terminal of the smoke duct, and a liquid outlet and inlet in the bottom of said chamber to draw the precipitation therefrom and maintain the liquid level. in said chamber.
3. In a smoke purifier the combination with a liquid containing chamber, agitators and bafiles in said chamber, a smoke duct comprising a plurality of parallel passages terminating adjacent the bottom of said chamber, said passages having their upper ends connected and communicating with the smoke flue, and a pair of draft fans disposed therein.
