INGUBATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
Application filed July 17, 1917. Serial No. 181,031.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I'IENRY M. SHEER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Incubators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an incubator of the center heated type wherein the direct method of heat control is used, in which case the damper is located centrally thereof, which damper is in turn operated by a suitable mechanism within the incubator for maintaining a predetermined temperature.
The object of my invention is to have this damper answer the two fold purpose of a damper and a window for inspection within the incubator.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section, showing the transparent damper.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the damper.
A indicates the incubator which is preferably provided with a centrally located heating chamber B having a plurality of radially disposed heating tubes Z) extending therefrom, and heated in the usual manner by a lamp or other suitable heating medium arranged at the lower end of the heating chamber B.
1 indicates an air inlet arranged in the bottom of the incubator and is adapted to surround said heating chamber B. Arranged directly above the heating chamber is an opening 2 for ventilation, this opening is controlled by a damper 3 which damper in this case is preferably made of some suitable transparent material such as glass, isinglass, or the like. This damper is supported upon a goose neck hook t which is pivotably supported upon a pivot 5, supported on the top of the incubator. This damper is automatically opened and closed by a thermostat arranged within the incubator and connected to the goose neck lever in such a way that the expansion and contraction of the thermostat will act to cause the open ing and closing of the damper 3. 7 indicates an egg tray which is adapted to surround the heating chamber B.
As will be noted in Fig. 2, the glass damper 3, in addition to controlling the heat,
moisture, and ventilation, provides a visible damper, which will permit an inspection at any time of the interior of the incubator one which forms a uniquely double function with controlling the temperature within the incubator and at the same time providing means for inspection.
I claim:
1. An incubator consisting of a housing, a heating chamber arranged centrally thereof, flues extending radially from said heating chamber, an air inlet surrounding said heating chamber, an air outlet arranged in the upper side of said housing, a transparent damper arranged above the said air outlet, and heat-controlled means arranged to open and close said transparent damper.
2. An incubator consisting of a housing, a heating chamber arranged centrally thereof, an air inlet arranged around said heating chamber, an air outlet arranged directly there above, and a transparent damper for controlling said outlet.
3. An incubator consisting of a housing, a heating chamber arranged centrally thereof, flues extending radially from said heating chamber, an air inlet surrounding said heating chamber, an air outlet arranged in the upper side of said housing, a damper arranged above the said outlet, said damper consisting of a transparent disk centrally supported upon a pivoted arm, and heatcontrolled means arranged to open and close said damper.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
