F. PENZA.
DIE PIN FOR MACARONI MACHINES. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 10. 1917.

fi'ederck P622511 564.; his atmmegs FREDERICK EPEINZA, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DIE-PIN FOR MACARONI-MACI-IINES.
Application filed fieptei'nber 10. 1917.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Fnnnnnion Panza, a citizen of Italy, and residing at Brooklyn. in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Die-Pins for lt'lacaronr Machines, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to machines for making macaroni, and particularly to what are known as the die pins used in connection with machines of this class, or in connection with the die blocks employed in machines of this class: and the object of the invention is to provide improved devices of the class specified whereby the macaroni as it passes through the die block or blocks is separated or divided and formed into tubular strips for the purpose of making tubular macaroni; and with this andothcr objects in view the invention consists indie pins of the class specified, constructed and operating as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in whichthe separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of a dough cylinder and showing a die block provided with my improved die pins:
Fig. 2 a side view of one of the die pins detached and with part of the construction broken away; I
Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 a plan view of the die pin shown in Figs. 2 and 3;
Fig. 5 a View similar to Fig. 2 but showing a modification;
F ig 6 a section on the line 66 of Fig. 5; and,
Fig. 7 a plan view of the die pin shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at a the bottom of the dough cylinderot' a macaroni machine, said die cylinder being mounted on the usual base a having a large central opening a and said base forms a part of a frame in which, in practice, said cylinder is mounted, and at 7) I have shown the die block usually employed in machines of the class specified in which are mounted a plurality of de- Speci'fication of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 190,457.
tachable die pins 0 constructed in the inaliner shown in Figs. :2 to t inclusive.
The die pins consist of a top tubular portion (E the top edge of which is beveled inwardly as shown at c, and the opposite side edges of the bottom thereof are cut out as shown at 0* to form oppositely arranged arc-shaped apertures c. The base of the tubular portion 0 is connected with a cylindrical stem 0 by a web portion 0 the top edge of which is beveled as shown at c as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and l of the drawing.
The die block I) is provided with a plurality of vertical apertures 6 having enlarged top portions I) which are circular in form in cross section. and smaller bottom portions b which are tapered downwardly and which are also circular in form in cross section and adapted to communicate with the opening a in the base a of the dough cylinder a.
The top and bottom portions 6 and 6* of the apertures form therebetween annular shoulders b on which the top tubular portions 0 of the die pins 0 are adapted to seat, as clearly indicated at the left of Fig. l, and the top of the apertures N, or the top portions 6 thereof, are beveled as shown at, b to permit the free passage of the macaroni into said apertures and through the die pins 0, as will be readily understood.
With the construction of die pin shown in Figs. 1 to at inclusive, it will be readily seen that the macaroni passed or forced through the dough cylinder (1 by the usual vertically movable piston or plunger cl will have a straight passage through thedie pins and will be equally divided, or separated as it passes by the Web portion 0 of said pins through the oppositely arranged apertures c and down through the bottom portion ('2 of the aperture 6 and around the cylindrical stems 0 and will be discharged through the opening 00 in a perfectly formed annular tube.
The construction of die pin shown in Figs. 5 to 7 inclusive accomplishes the same result as that shown in Figs. 1 to t inclusive, but instead of providing an annular or tubular head 0 to the pin, I rovide oppositely arranged arc-shaped Inem ers a which form correspondingly arranged openings 0 The top faces of the arc-shaped member 0? are beveled inwardly as shown at 0 and the lower edge portions thereof are connected by a Web portion o centrally of which is connected a downwardly directed cylindrical stem similar in all respects to the stem 0 of the die pin shown in Figs. 2 to a inclusive. The top face of the web portion 0 is beveled as shown at c in Figs. 6 and 7.
The use of the die pin shown in Figs. to 7 inclusive will be exactly the same as the pin shown in Figs. 2 to 4 inclusive, and the result produced will also be the same, and it will be understood that while I have shown two forms of die pins for accomplishing the desired result it will be understood that my invention is not limited to the specific form and construction of the same herein shown and described; and changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A die pin for machines of the class specified, comprising a stem having an enlarged tubular head connected therewith by a Web portion, the top of said stemterminating where the tubular head connects therewith by said web portion, the top edge of said tubular portion being beveled inby a web portion, the top of said stem termia nating where the tubular head connects therewith by said web portion, the top edge of said tubular head being beveled inwardly and the bottom edge thereof provided on opposite sides with are-shaped apertures and the top face of said web portion and said stem being beveled.
.3. A die pin for machines of the class specified, comprising a cylindrical stem having an enlarged head portion connected therewith by a web portion, the top of said stem terminating at the base of said head portion or where said web portion connects said stem and said head, the top face of said web portion and said stem being beveled and the top face of the head portion being beveled inwardly.
In testimony that-l claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 7th day of September, 1917.
FREDERICK PENZA.
