' conveniently employed for mending or connecting parts of draft appliances, such as halters or harnesses, to eiect a connection or enable repairs to be made without the necessity of stitchin parts together.
A further o ject of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which simple of construction, capable of being made and sold at a comparatively low cost, and which may be employed by anyone of ordinary mechanical skill without the use of special tools.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had -to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a repair ring constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the ends of the ring prior to connection.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the ring closed and the ends thereof connected.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section I through the lapping ends of the ring.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section thereof.
The repair device 1 is shown in the present instance in ring form, although it is to be understood that it may be of link form, that is, either round, elliptical or oval. and in practice this ring` or link is made of spring wire of any suitable gage and may be made in dierent sizes to suit various demands of the trade.

The relatively outer surfaces of the lapping portions 2 and 3 of the ring are provided with interlocking teeth 6, adapted when interlocked, to bring the ends of the ring togther, and to coperate with the transverse fastening 4 to prevent separation of the lapped ends of the ring in a longitudinal direction, a dual form .of security against longitudinal separation being thereby secured in a simple and e'ecF tive manner.
The toothed outer surfaces of the ends of the ring are adapted to be brought into engagement by moving said ring ends laterally in such a manner as to cause them to pass one another in a transverse direction, which may be eected by springing one of the ring ends under the other, until their relative positions are reversed. whereby the normally outer toothed surfaces of the ring are brought to lie on the relatively inner surfaces of the ends of the ring, so that when the ring ends are lapped the 'toothed surfaces will interengage or interlock, as will be readily understood. When so moved to reversed positions, the tendency of the ring ends will be, by their spring action, to return to their normal positions, so that by such spring action the toothed surfaces of the ring will be held in locking engagement against any tendency to lateral disconnection. Hence by this construction and spring action double security will also ltwillelsomseenthattheeonsnfuction described also facilitates` the application of the fastening member 4, whether in the lform of a screw or rivet, since, as the ends of the ring are held connected by their lspring action, the screw or rivet may be construction, capable of being manufac-Y tured and sold at a-comparatively loW cost, and which affords manifold conveniences in connecting harnesses and other parts for coupling or repair Work. It Will, of course, be understood that the device may be applied by passing one of the ends of the ring through openings in the parts to be connected and then uniting the ends of the ring to join the parts in the lnanner described.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A device of the character described comprising a rin or link made of a continuous length o spring Wire, and having lapping end portions normally held by spring action spread in a lateral direction, said lapping end portions being provided with lateral interlocking surfaces, and means i for holding said end portions iiiterlockedv against lateral separation.
2. .device of the character described comprising a split ring or link made of spring Wire, said ring or link having its end portions spread laterally in spiral relation and provided with relatively outer toothed surfaces adapted for interlocking engagement, said surfaces adapted to be engaged by reversing the position of the ends of the ring, and supplemental means for holding the ends ofthe ring connected.
3. A device of the character described comprising a split ring or link made of spring Wire and having end portions arranged to overlap and normally separated on spiral lines,`said end portions being provided on their normally outer surfaces with intermeshing teeth and being prm 'ded with transverse openings, said end portions of the ring being adapted to be laterally transposed in position for engagement of said toothed surfaces and having openings extendinv therethrough, and a fastening device a apted to be passed through said o enings to supplement the holding action o the toothed surfaces.
