To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES B. Bussum., a citizen fof the United States, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weed- Pullers, of which the following is a full, true, and exact specification.

My invention relates to weed pullers and has forits principal object to provide an improved construction for a device of this character; to provide means for cleaning -a 'foot 'operated weed puller. Other objects will appear as my invention is more fully explained in the following specifications, illustrated in the accom-y panying 'drawlng and pointed out the appended claims.

Referring more particularly tothe'drawings, numeral 1 indicates a stad upon'the' lower end of which is secured a Socket 2,

which terminates at its lower end lin a prong 3. A similar prong 4 is pivotally secured to prong 3 as at 5. A foot lever 6 is integral with prong4 and extends atright ,angles Y thereto. L' A band 7 is slidably mounted upon staff 1 and is ,provided with an upstanding lug 8. Rods 9 are pivoted to each side of. band 7 which extend downward .along the `sides of the staff 1 until their lower-ends engage a cleaner 10 which is positioned between the prongs 3A and 4. My cleaner is of special construction in that it is concave on thebottom land is provided with\ sharpened faces 11 which engage the inner faces of prongs 3 and 4. Cleaner 1() is normally held in a position as shown by means of a r0d12, the lower end of which is attached to lug 8, projecting from the band 7, and

mounted on said rod between a 'lug 8*' projecting from the staff, and a' collar 14, onf

the rod is a spring 12. The tension of the spring between the lugs -serves to force the rod upwardly, which through the connections retains the cleaner 10 up between the prongs 3 and 4. The upper end of rod 12 1s provided with a thumb plate 15.- yIn operationthe prongs and 4 are forced into the ground one on each side of the Weed which it is desired to pull.- The staff 1 is ,then pulled toward the foot lever 6 with- `vprong Yparallel rods to opposite sides of the collar and whose' the result that the weed is pinched between the prongs 3 and 4 .and is pulled by raising the stad' about the foot lever 6. When the weed is being pulled it is ejected from between the prongs and the prongs are cleaned by shoving downwardly upon the thumb plate 15 which shoves `the collar 7 down along the sta 1 with the result that the rods 9 move the cleaner 10 down toward the points of the prongs.

While I have shown a particular form of v embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily 'suggest` themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and I therefore desire to avoid being limited to the exact form shown and described, except as pointed out in the appended claims.

Having described m-y invention, what I Y claim .as new andrdesire to protect by' Letters Patent, is-

1. Ina device of the class described, the combination of a staff having a stationary hinged to the said stationary prong,
