LOADEB FOR CONCBETE-MIXEBS.
Specification of letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 121%.
Application filed Eebruary 8, 1915. Berial No. 8,700.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEBHARD Janeen a citizen of the United States, residing at (Jolumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Loaders for Concrete-Mixers, of which the following is a. specification.
The object of this invention is more especially to provide improved means for automatically loading or charging concrete mixers with materials to be mixed whereby that work can be accomplished with greater convenience, cleanliness and more speed and with less manual labor than heretofore.
The invention is embodied in the example illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in the following specification and finally claimed. y
In the said drawing- Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the apparatus in full lines with the bucket lowered and in broken lines the bucket elevated to discharge into the mixing drum.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
In the views 5 designates the mixing drum which has suitable means for tilting and rotatin it, said means being unnecessary to detail here. The mixing drum is shown as mounted on a suitable truck and frame including a standard 6 and platform 7. Erected from the platform is a frame 8 for receivin the pulleys and other parts employed 1n the construction.
9 designates the bucket which has a bail 10 hinged thereto at opposite sides as at 11. The bucket tapers toward its discharging end so that ordinary loading will leave itsubstantially balanced on the hingin points 11. Connecting the bucket at the hlnges 11 and the standard 6 at the points 6 of the standard are arms 12 that are transversely connected by curved straps 13 reaching under the bucket. The arms 12 and straps 13 form a sort of cradle to support the discharging end of the bucket. The bucket to-v ethe? with its supporting cradle are hoisted y means of a cable 14 that is attached to the bail 10 and passes first to and over a pulley 15 on the frame 8, thence to and under a pulley 16 on the bail 10, thence to and over two pulleys 17 and 18 to a suitable hoisting drum 19. Hinged to and depending from the frame 8 is an arm 24 having a guiding finger 20 and hook 21. Normally the guiding finger 20 lies in the path of a bar 22 subtending the sides of the bucket across the top so that when the bucket is raised, the bucket being loaded to balance on the bail, the hook engages the bar 22 and holds said discharging end depressed while the other end is carried up and the discharging end directed toward the mouth of the mixing drum, as illustrated in the upper of the broken line positions of the bucket Fig. 1. The lower broken line position of the bucket illustrates the position of that member at the moment when the bar 22 strikes the uiding finger 20. It will be observed that because the bucket maintains its original balanced position until the bar 22 strikes the finger 20, the said bar does not when the bucket is elevated, travel upon an arc of a circle having for its center the hinging points 6 but rather upon a curve eccentric to said hinging points. In the operation the arm bearing the hook 21 swings toward the mouth of the mixing drum so as to bring the discharging end of the bucket very near or into the mouth of the drum whereby practically the whole of the load is discharged into the mixing drum without spilling upon the platform or machinery.
When the cable winding drum is turned in the direction opposite that employed for winding up the cable the bucket and its guiding and supporting cradle fall to the ground for reloading.
The parts of the construction can be changed without departing from the invention as claimed.
What I claim is 1. A loader for a concrete mixer comprising in combination, a frame, arms pivoted to the frame, a bucket tiltably secured to said arms, means for hoisting the bucket and an arm pendently pivoted to the frame, said arm having a guiding finger and a hook to engage the bucket'to 'cause the tilting of the same when hoisted.
mg in combination, a frame arms" pivoted charge.
2. A loa'u'ier for a concrete miner compristially horizontally toward the place of dis to the frame, a. bucket tiltaiily secured to I I said arms, means for hoistin g the bucket GEBHARD JAEGER- a and a pendent osclllat n means to arrest Witnesses;
