Be it known that i', CHAnLns l-l. TOWN- snnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Yonkers, county of lvlfestchester, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sprinkler-Heads for Fire-Extinguishing Systems, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to the type of sprinkler head for fire extinguishing systems wherein the valve is normally held to its seat by means interposed between it and the yoke, the valve retaining means being caused to move out of engagement with said valve by the. heat of the lire.
The primary object of this invention is 'to provide a device of this character of simple construction involving a minimum of parts andrnatcrial, with considerable ease in assemblage and which will be positive and certain in operation.

The plates 3 and 5 are each cut away as at 11 and 15 and the thin portions of these plates overlap so that when the two plates are thus placed together they form a structure of uniform thickness;
The upper platel 5 is provided with an opening 14 and the lower plate 3 is provided with a lip 13 which is positioned opposite said opening, as indicated in Figs. 5, 6 and 'i'.
The locking plato 9 is provided with a laterally extending, upwardly turned lip 10, and said lip 10 passes through the opening 14 in the position shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7.A
From the foregoing, the operation of my improved device will be readily understood. Thef'parts are assembled in the position shown in 1, with the plates 3 and 5 overlapping in the manner heretofore described with the lower end of the plate 5 supported on the ledge or shoulder 12 of the plate 3. The locking plate 9 bears against the outer surface of the plate 3 with its lip 10 projecting through the opening 14. in the plate 3. Solder 16 or any other fusible means is placed between the plates whereby a unitary structure is formed. After the parts are soldered together, the structure is placed between the valve and screw 7 by unserewing said screw and then tightening the same downwardly onthe upper end 6 of the plate 5.
When the heat becomes of suiiicient intensity, the solder is melted whereby the plates are freed from one another and will begin to move as indicated in Fig. 8, the lip 13 on the plate 3 lifting the locking plate out of engagement with the plate 5 until the parts are finally separated, as shown in Fig. 9, and the valve released.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiment herein shown, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claim.
