ADOLF BENGTSOIN, OF HOLDREGE, NEBRASKA.
SICKLE-BAR-HOLDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1918.
Application filed July 12, 1917. Serial No. 180,231.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnoLr Bnne'rson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holdrege, in the county of Phelps and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sickle-Bar-l'lolding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sickle bar holding devices. One object is to provide a device for supporting a sickle bar during the process of sharpening the sections thereof so that the weight of the sickle bar will be taken from the hands of the operator. With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my tion illustrating its use.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a pos provided with the spaced apertured angle pieces 2, 3. Through the aperture in the angle piece 2 the threaded end 4: of a supporting arm 5 extends, said arm-end 4- bcing adjustable vertically through the medium of the nut 6 which rests upon the angle piece 2. An angular brace arm 7 is carried by the said angle piece 3 and has its opposite end in supporting engagement with the said arm 5. The outer end of said arm 5 terminates in a rounded portion 8 above which a stem 9 extends which terminally carries the cotter pin 10.
A semi-circular clamping arm 11 formed with a plurality of perforations 12 is adapted for engagement, through the medium of any of its perforations, with the stem 9, said arm having a bearing upon the rounded invenend S of the arm 5. The ends of the clamping arm are bifurcated for engagement with a sickle bar 13, set screws 14- carried by said bifurcated arm-ends serving to frictionally retain the sickle bar in posit-ion. The sickle bar is supported in such manner that one person may readily move and adjust it to permit its teeth to engage the grindstone 15 for the sharpeningoperation. The bifurcated ends of the clamping arm 11 are connected by hinges 16 to the body of the arm to permit manual adjustment. of the sickle bar.
What is claimed is:
1. In a sickle bar holding device, a post, spaced apertured angle pieces carried by said post, a supporting arm adjust-ably carried by one of said angle pieces, a brace arm carried by the other angle piece for supporting engagement with the said supporting arm, a stem terminally carried by the said supporting arm, and a terminally bifurcated clamping arm, said clamping arm being formed with perforations to permit of its engagement with said stem.
2. In a sickle bar holding device, a post, spaced apertured angle pieces carried by said post in alinement with each other, a supporting arm adjustably carried by one of said angle pieces and terminating at one end in a rounded portion, an angular brace arm carried by the othe angle piece for supporting engagement with the said supporting arm, a stem terminally carried by the said supporting arm, a semi-circular perforated clamping arm formedavith bifurcated terminations adjustably carried by said stem.
and a cotter pin carried by said stem.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
A. BENGTSON.
Witnesses CARL M. OLSON, H. E. ERICKSON.
