To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Gnonen Prnrrrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Dobby, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in a dobby of the type disclosed in my prior Patent No. 1,174,895, issued to me March 7, 1916.

It is sometimes necessary to remove the hook actuating fingers from operative position in a dobby of this type, to permit repairs or replacement of said fingers, and it is the object of my present invention to provide a new and improved construction by the use of which such removal and replacement may be most conveniently performed. This construction is particularly adapted to facilitatc the embodiment of my improvements in dobbies already in use as well as in (lobbies hereafter constructed.

My invention relates particularly to certain arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a portion of a dobby embodying my improvements, and

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation taken along the line 22 in Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings, I have shown a portion of a dobby having side frames 10 and 11, upper and lower grates or combs 12 and 13, lifter hooks 14;, and a plurality of hook actuating fingers 15 and 16, all as shown in my prior patent. The fingers 15 and 16 are mounted in parallel relation in the dobby and each finger is provided with an open-sided recess 17 in its lower edge, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The fingers 15 and 16 are partially supported by a cross bar 18 extending through the frames 10 and 11, and upon which the recessed portions of the fingers rest.

In order to prevent accidental displacement of the fingers I provide retaining rod 19 overlying the said fingers and preventing any displacement or lGIllOWtl thereof from operative position upon the bar 18. The ends of the rod 19 are received in slots or openings 20 formed in projections 21 extending upward from collars 22 adjustably secured by set screws 23 to the cross bar 18. Additional set screws 2 L extending through one portion of each projection 21 prevent displacement of the retaining rod 19.

By this simple construction I obtain certain important advantages. The rod 19, while securely holding the fingers in opera: tive position, is readily removable by withdrawing the screws 24; and may be removed and replaced without changing the adjustment of any other part of the mechanism. As the bar 18 is a constituent part of all (lobbies of this type now' in use the entire invention may be applied to old dobbies without requiring any mechanical operations to adapt it thereto. The rod 18 is simply withdrawn sufiiciently to permit the collars 22 to be placed thereon, after which it is returned to its original position. The collars are then adjusted and secured by the screws 23, and after placing the fingers 15 and 16 in position the rod 19 is dropped into the slots or openings 20 and is secured therein by means of the screws 2-1.

All of the advantages of my present invention, as well as the advantages disclosed in my prior patent, are thus rendered available in old (lobbies without the performance of any mechanical operations thereon, a very important advantage when such work is necessarily performed in the weave-room of a textile mill.

Having thus described my invention, it will be evident that changes and modifications can be made therein by those skilled in the art, and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim 1s 1.
